WAYLAND, Mass. -- Police have told the father of a missing Massachusetts teen that a female body found in a marshy area of his town is his 18-year-old daughter, Boston's WCVB-TV reported Monday.
Lauren Astley's empty Jeep was found in a parking lot leading to a lake beach, a few miles from where her body was discovered in Wayland, Mass., roughly 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of Boston.
Astley, who graduated from a local high school this spring, disappeared after leaving her job Sunday evening, the station reported.
According to WCVB, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office has not released details, but is investigating the death as "suspicious."
Malcolm Astley, a retired school principal, told WCVB that investigators gave him little information as to how his daughter may have died.
"If anyone can provide any information as to what might have happened here between 7:45 and 8 o'clock last night it could help," he told the station.
The missing girl was planning to attend Elon University in North Carolina this fall, her father said, according to WCVB.
"Most fathers can go on and on, but she was spunky and ferocious with me, in a wonderful way, and (had) a good laugh, and a great enjoyer of life," the distraught father told the station. "That's what we want for our kids."
