Authorities have detained a person of interest in the shooting death Wednesday of a prominent white supremacist inside his northern California home, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Police say that 40-year-old David Lynch was found shot to death in a bedroom of his Sacramento County home just before 4 a.m. Wednesday.
The newspaper reports that Lynch was shot in the head and upper torso. A 33-year-old woman was also shot and is expected to survive, police said.
Citrus Heights police spokesman Lt. Gary Hendricks told the newspaper that a person of interest was taken into custody Wednesday at a gas station in Rancho Cordova. The individual, whom he did not name, has not yet been charged with a crime.
Lynch was leader of the American Front, one of the "oldest continuously active racist skinhead groups in the United States," according to the Anti-Defamation League.
"The group espouses an anti-Semitic, white supremacist ideology and disseminates its message in public events that demonize Jews, immigrants, and other minorities," the ADL wrote on its website.
Hendricks reportedly said the motive behind the shooting is "under investigation."
"It would be premature to speculate while the investigation is underway," he told the newspaper.
