La. state police investigate crash that kills 5

BATON ROUGE, La. – State police in Louisiana are investigating a deadly head-on collision on Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge that killed five people, including a child.

Investigators say a pickup truck crossed the median Sunday night and slammed into the car carrying five people. The car burst into flames, burning it beyond recognition and killing the five people inside. The names of the victims have not been released.

Troopers say two people inside the pickup truck sustained life-threatening injuries.

A witness, Kevin Patton, told WAFB-TV he was driving home to New Orleans when he saw the crash. He said the pickup truck was going fast right before it crossed the median.

Russell Graham, a state police spokesman, says investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
