Iowa Man Who Punched Himself Doesn't Fool Police

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Police say a Des Moines man has been arrested on assault charges that did not include the bruises he inflicted on himself.

The Des Moines Register reports that 23-year-old Aaron Jay Rogers and a 27-year-old woman got into an argument Tuesday at a Des Moines apartment. Police say that when the woman tried to leave, Rogers pushed her down. Police say Rogers hit a friend who tried to intervene, then dragged the other woman back into the apartment.

A police report says a witness then watched Rogers punch himself in the face "numerous times to make it look like he was the victim."

Jail records say Rogers faces three charges, including two for assault. He remained in custody Thursday, pending $10.300 bail. Online records don't list his attorney's name.
