Education Scam Gives Ohio Woman a Lesson in Jail Time

An Ohio woman was jailed after she made an attempt to place her daughters in a better school district without paying taxes for their education.

An Ohio woman was jailed after she made an attempt to place her daughters in a better school district without paying taxes for their education.

Kelley Williams-Bolar, of Akron, was indicted and convicted after she lied about her residency and falsified records to get her daughters into the Copley-Fairlawn School District four years ago, one of the top-ranked in the city.

"It's overwhelming. I'm exhausted," she said to ABC News. "I did this for them, so there it is. I did this for them."

The school district uncovered the scam after they hired a private investigator to shoot video of Williams-Bolar driving her children into the district – one they were ineligible to attend due to residence restrictions.

The children are no longer attending the district, which asked Williams-Bolar to pay $30,000 in back tuition.
