A Connecticut school bus driver is facing charges after police obtained video footage of her allegedly sending and receiving over 1,000 text messages while behind the wheel.
Trumbull police launched an investigation of Evelyn Guzman, 47, of Stratford, when they received a call from parents who said their 9-year-old autistic daughter was being abused on her bus.
Guzman’s daughter, a bus monitor, was charged with the assault of the student in August. The concerned parents told FoxCT that their daughter repeatedly came home with bruises on her hands and arms.
After receiving video footage from First Student Bus Co., authorities discovered Guzman sent and received 1,068 text messages while driving in between April 6 and May 15, 2010.
Guzman faces charges of risk of injury and second-degree reckless endangerment and turned herself in on an arrest warrant, police said. The bus company could not be reached for comment.
