CHICAGO – A Chicago-area convict who police believe escaped from a moving prison van is back in custody after being found in a port-a-pottie.
Cesar Sanchez escaped from a moving department of corrections transport van while on his way back from a court appearance.
A police source says it appears Sanchez then hopped on the top of the cab of a Berryman truck and hid behind the wind foil - riding all the way from Lockport to Rockdale, Ill.
“The driver thought he heard a noise could have been a bird or something like that,” Will County Sheriff Paul Kaupas said. “As he was walking away he saw a foot and it appeared to him the subject was in the back of his truck.”
Sanchez was on the loose for around six hours as nearly 100 cops searched for him.
They searched an area filled with 300 port-a-potties and a helicopter infrared camera got a hit on one of the port-a-potties. Officers found Sanchez hiding inside.
Records show Sanchez is serving a seven-year sentence that began in 2006 for burglaries.
He has previously been convicted of burglary, shoplifting, robbery, aggravated battery, motor vehicle theft and unlawful use of a credit card.
