Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff are the design duo behind the high fashion womenswear label, Meadham Kirchhoff. The have an intrinsic ability to evoke the elusive whimsical and the dark simultaneously. The woman they design for is individual and strong.
Meadham Kirchhoff have lent their hand to a spring summer 2010 collection for Topshop.
This marks their second collection for Topshop.
The lineup is in a restrained palette of black, navy and flesh, it was inspired by their assistant.
The press release states – “Influenced by their Assistant Erin, whose way of layering eclectic pieces of borrowed, vintage or found items, the collection tries to explore this idea of mixing together different items so that each piece looks great individually or mixed with other pieces from the collection.”
The collection (a cross section as featured in collage above) includes dresses, a long jumper, t-shirts, two tailored biker jackets( one in a wool and the other in a black denim) and slips that play with proportion and lightness. The designs
An going thread throughout the designs is spots of glitter, intricate sequin embellishment, over/underlays and dramatic cuts.
The deconstruction of the lace, tulle and sequin details on flesh and sheer garments add a darkness, dynamic and depth to pieces that could be erroneously misconstrued as basic.
Pleasantly the collection retains a feel of the signature Meadham Kirchhoff design ethos.
I am always enthused by garments that allow for layering. The lightness, interesting cuts and colour palette make for timeless garments timeless that infinite layering options
The collection launches at Topshop (both in UK and USA on 20th May, 2010.
