trend spotter // thigh high boots

Monday, December 14th, 2009

The only boots you should be wearing this winter? The thigh high, what I affectionately like to call the thigh grazer. The women above clearly know how to make a pair work for variety of dress codes.

There is a host out there to suit a spectrum of tastes. Perforated? Stella McCartney has that covered and Rihanna has worn it. One part wader and all parts lust inducing? Miuccia Prada saw to it and Tolula smashed it with a furry pair of shorts.

The trick to keeping the thigh grazer out of ‘Pretty Woman hookersville’ territory is the sweet art of balance. Play with proportions.

Wearing mini lengths with a high heeled pair? Stay classy like Tolula by keeping the top loose fitting.

Make like Stella and gang by snagging a delish thigh grazer too. The fun part is there is one to suit each budget.

Purchase Topshop’s leather ‘Britany’ in cash for £100. Topshop’s yummy pair are great value for money. These are timeless. These you will wear over and over again. Throw it under a dress and a structured belted cardigan for the office. Or pair with a boyfriend blazer and slouchy micro shorts for night.

Write a cheque for the drool inducing Topshop Unique pair for £225. The heel on this baby is ferocious! Oh and did I mention the cut outs is the accentuated with elastic detailing?

Charge Stella McCartney’s faux leather pair to your credit card for £515. Stella how many ways do I love you? The wonderful faux leather, the do not mess with me gun metal heel. I could go on and on about its merits. I cannot finish counting the ways…

Happy Thigh Grazing!

Glamour, Glitz & Glory

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Last night the very stylish British Fashion Industry all hopped over to London’s Royal Courts of Justice for the prestigious British Fashion Awards as held by the British Fashion Council.

Glamour and glitz was in full force with most of the guests wearing the best in British fashion. Blue came up trumps being part off all my fave outfits from last night. Shinga Shoniwa from fab band Noisettes and actress & model Tolula Adeyemi both shone in bold cobalt blue. I heart Shingai’s pants and Tolula’s sequined one arm Manjit Deu Spring/Summer 2010 gown. Natalia Vodianova’s pale blue off shoulder gown is just wonderfully effortless. Love Kate Moss’s John Galliano piece too.

Winners included Christopher Bailey who won the coveted Designer of the Year award, Christopher Kane won Collection of the Year, Georgia Jagger scooped Model of the Year,Kate Moss took home the  London 25 Award; a new publicly voted award.

Holly Fulton won the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Accessories and Peter Pilotto grabbed the same award for Ready to Wear.

John Galliano was receipient of the British Fashion Council Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design as collected on his behalf by Moss. The model was in a floor length piece by the designer. Grace Coddington received the Isabella Blow award for Fashion Creator.

Kisses,
Marian.
