Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Flats (in this case, in the form of the slipper loafer) need not be flat on style. Look for luxurious texture, decadent embellishment and a rich palette.

Feet are having a comfortable moment and they could not be happier.

The Shopping Basket // Knitwear

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

One way of dealing with the plummeting temperature, is to stock up on memorable knitwear. It looks great, it feels warm, it is a win win. Killing two birds with one stone never looked so good

If there was ever a season with great knits, it is now. The choice of prints, techniques, hues, cuts is as diverse as it gets. Below are just some of my favorites. With these in my closet, winter would have nothing on me.

Jil Sander chunky knit cashmere sweater.
There is something precise in functionality about this sweater. Pair that with the luxury of the cashmere and you have a very special piece.
Channel ski get-a-away it is.

Rosie Sugden Scottish Cashmere tartan pom-pom beanie.
I crown this pom-pom beanie, the stuff that hand-knitted intarsia dreams, are made of. There is a highland romance about it that would be wonderful worn with anything.

I’d wear the 100% cashmere beanie with a vintage beaded floor length gown, silk pajama pants, faux fur and well worn vintage boots. This I would top off with an air that I can only describe as the love child of 80′s new romantic and Seattle’s 90′s grunge.

A pom-pom beanie never provoked so much inspiration.

Missoni slub wool knit sweater.
This jumper makes me feel a little dizzy but it is a good sort of dizzy. Blurred lines in zany violet and blue will add dimension to any outfit. I can almost hear the Missoni powers that be, saying, you are welcome.

People Tree slub wool knit sweater.
The feel good factor gets even better with these earth conscious wool socks. Made from 100% recycled wool, the long socks are hand knitted in Nepal. The mish-mash of patterns is a happy pill in knit form.

Dorothy Perkins plait detail jumper.
A fun shade of orange and plait detail make interesting bedfellows. I would throw this on with mannish oversize proportions.

Crumpet ochre floral scarf.
Oh Crumpet, how many ways do I adore on you? The luxury of 100% cashmere, high pigment palettes and memorable prints etc. Scarf heaven is certainly this amber gold and navy design.

Unique by Topshop Dalmatian print chunky heeled ankle boots.
These boots stole my heart as they made their way down the Unique fall winter 2011 runway.

Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Dalmatian print drill skirt.
Sonia Rykiel and French cheek chic goes hand in hand. I’d like to see this Sonia by Sonia Rykiel skirt contrasted with her signature stripe.

Eddie Borgo pilgrim parka.
Eddie Borgo creates jewellery after my fickle heart. Gem cones and Dalmatian prints? Genius.

Dolce & Gabbana Dalmatian print gloves.
Hands get in on the dog trend with these Dolce & Gabbana gloves.

The Shopping Basket // Parkas

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

The humble parka is in the spotlight. Although the parka is by no means new, its interpretation for fall 2011 is explored. The outerwear staple sees designers experiment with varied construction, fabric and embellishment twists.

Miss Selfridge extreme angular acetate sunglasses.
Miss Selfridge tick off the fur trend with this faux fur trimmed parka.

Red Valentino tulle embellished parka.
This parka does a well balanced mix of utilitarian meets feminine.

All Saints pilgrim parka
It is the little details that can make a mundane piece unique. This parka has a memorable dip dye wash finish.

Christopher Raeburn silver parka with detachable jacket.
This Raeburn piece would make for some interesting layering options, adding a whole new dimension to a wardrobe.

The Shopping Basket // Python Heels

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Designers got inventive with their use of python this season. Perhaps a knock on effect of the 70′s trend? The snakeskin mania did not just stop with garments, it funneled down south to footwear too.

If you are looking for snakeskin (be it faux or real) heel inspiration, look no further.

Yves Saint Laurent Baobab python wedge sandals.
The combination of the olive and orange python, the thin straps and that wedge heel create quite the formidable piece.

Marc Jacobs Wrap-around python and velvet sandals.
Marc does pure 70′s inspired glamor by pairing this red velvet with the gold python. I can imagine these on Pat Cleveland with a Halston dress back at Studio 54 during its heyday.

Alaïa structured color-block dress.
I am convinced Azzedine Alaïa sole purpose in life is to make women happy! There is artisanal feel to these that add interest to the glamazon platform.
