Vintage crinkle sheer shirt, h&m dress worn as skirt, sheer leggings, boob tube, Frye boots, Topshop necklace.

Sunday 18th July 2010.

My clothes work over time for the closet space they take up. Re-purposing is the name of the game and I explore as many ways to wear each item.

This skirt started life as a dress in H&M. I scored it for £5 many sale moons ago. I have always preferred it worn as a skirt. I affectionately call it my skirt dress. Today I woke up in the mood for something lightweight. So I pinned to the side to enable it’s individual floaty layers to show. It has an interesting manner about it. When I’m wearing it, it feels so light that I feel nude.

Birds of a feather…

I thought I’d push it’s seemingly weightless mood further by pairing it with the sheer crinkled vintage shirt and a pair or white sheer tights that I chopped into cropped leggings.

Constant contradictions

Weirdly I could not bare the thought of a girly, fragile heel with this look. Maybe it is due to my unconscious constant hankering for contradictions. Or perhaps it is due to the fact that I have never been an all out girly girl style wise, which my choice of hair cut no doubt testifies to. I just like something a tad uncouth, rough and aggressive with all the delicate softness of the garments. Alice the Frye boots came to the rescue, giving the outfit that bit of grit. Topped off with coral lipstick and my multiple stacked rings and cuffs, I was good to go.

Seahorse pendant necklace by Oasis, chain belt as necklace, sheer leggings, Michel Klein for La Redoute shoes, multiple rings and self made dress.

Sunday 6th June 2010.

Inspiration –
Every summer my internal clock never fails to yearn for white garments. Last week I featured my white garment & accessory lust list.

Do it yourself
On Sunday I woke up to a day soaked in sunlight and so I made a straight beeline to my closet for this dress. The dress is a diy creation I made some months ago.

Nocturnal creativity
I get up to all kinds of diy and garment/accessory customisation as seen here when insomnia strikes her ugly head. I like to hand sew (albeit quite haphazardly) as well as I find it therapeutic. You should see me curled in the couch sewing at 5am, crazy. A few months ago I used remnants of this stretchy white t-shirt cotton fabric to make this dress.

Light and airy does it
I have worn it an infinite number of times since its creation and it seemed like the perfect choice for a sunny day. Due to the warmth I paired it with the sheer black mesh leggings. I was in the mood for all things uncomplicated, white and airy so the white t-shirt dress and light leggings made for perfect bedfellows.

I crushed on sheer leggings here and wore them in this style diary post. You can see two images from that outfit in image four and five as above.

They are great for the sunny weather. I have been wearing them beneath floaty vintage dresses, under slouchy shorts and so forth.
I know they will be wonderful come winter too, as they can be layered over other thicker legwear for interesting effect.

The options are endless…

Now I would like one of my lovely readers to get a chance to crush on a pair too.

After buying the first pair from Oasis on sale (which I have been wearing to death by the way!), I bought a second pair for this giveaway (pictured in second to last image and last image).

Both pairs can be seen in the second to last image as above. The one the winner will receive is brand new, unworn with tag (as seen in the second to last image on the right. Also pictured in last image).

The leggings are in a large. I am a UK size 10 ( U.S size 6) so I usually wear a small but I intentionally bought both pairs of leggings in a large because it allows for layering other legwear beneath the sheer pair. I have always preferred the slouchy to the overly tight bodycon look. The leggings are perfect in the waist for a small, medium or large. It being large just allows for a slouchier leg thus allowing you to wear other pairs of leggings, tights etc beneath it sort of in the style of Rodarte Autumn/Winter 2010 -2011 legwear look.

In my world this past week, those three have existed like one big family.

I am crushing like a giggly school girl on these mesh sheer leggings by Oasis.

I recently bought them in the sale and they have already made an appearance twice this week.

Once was beneath a pair of really ripped vintage jeans and the other time it was in a mumbo jumbo sort of layered outfit. Both were topped off with Frye boots as seen in last two images. I think the ‘grit straight to the point’ boots balances out the coquettish sheer legwear.

Pieces like the mesh leggings make for great fillers. You know… the bits that bridge the wardrobe gaps. Those ‘cannot do without’ garments that are like the binding agent in an outfit, pulling all it’s elements together.

I am going to wearing this number beneath or on top a whole heap of garments.

Sun + Sheer = Happy Skin.

What are you crushing on this week?

Kisses,
Marian.
