Grammy Glamour

Ah the Grammys… where would we be without the anticipated glamour? I for one would have nothing to drool over! Even though my work as a Celebrity Personal stylist includes styling clients for the red carpet, I am always still excited by what the red carpet churns up.

As I tell my clients, when you hit the red carpet, recess if over. Have fun with it but trust me, it is not a time for play. It is time to charm, make a style statement and kill it (style wise that is)…

Love or Loathe Lady Gaga (In case you were wondering I’m with the Haus of Love Gaga party!), she cannot be accused of being boring. I for one adore her walking art installation meets conceptual couture orbitital starry outfit. The purveyor of all things marvellous, Mr Armani designed a series of Armani Prive pieces, including the above for Gaga which she wore both for red carpet and for stage. I want her shoes and the leg wear!

Rihanna looks like a winter wonder land vision in the Elie Saab gown. The piece is divine and works a treat with her newly lightened blonde coif.

Jennifer Lopez killed it in her Versace metal mesh dress. This takes me way back to Lopez in that slit Versace dress at the Grammys in 2000 with P.Diddy.

Beyoncé who picked up a female record 6 Grammy awards, wore Stephane Rolland on the red carpet with bold earrings. I love the whole celestial feel that the gown, earrings and glints of gold in her hair create.

Katy Perry’s outfit equals love! It’s sort of Bette Davis pin girl meets shimmering Bollywood. I adore that she wore gold ‘Bindi’ on her forehead. The Zac Posen dress is delish!

Nicole Kidman looked elegant in a black gown by Prada. I love the crystal detailing at the halter neck! Gorgeous!

Pink rocked it in a gown of graduating colour; she looked fabulous in the decadent floor sweeping Tony Ward Haute Couture number.

Taylor Swift looked every inch the Hollywood star. I love her in the off the shoulder shimmering midnight inky blue Kaufman Franco gown. She looks divine, elegant and effortless. The singer won four awards.

Actress Lea Michele from new addictive TV show Glee looked sophisticated in a one arm cocktail piece. I think the dress by Romona Keveza is gorgeous on the Lea who was making her Grammy debut.

Jennifer Nettles looked impeccable in Victoria Beckham. I like that she chose to go with red. I talked about that collection recently, find it here.

Rihanna has collaborated with Simon Henwood again(he designed her recently launched “Rated R” CD logo and is heading artistic direction of her upcoming tour etc) on writing a book.

No details about content or cover of the book entitled Rihanna: The Last Girl on Earth has emerged as yet. It is 144 pages and will be available at Amazon for $50 from June 20th.

What do you think it’s content will center on?

Rihannas spikes

Images from Zimbio and BigPicturesPhoto

Rihanna has a crush on spikes. She has been sporting the ‘be careful not too come too close to me or you may lose an eye’ designs with fervour. Some of my fave Rihanna spikes were custom made by design duo The Blonds.

Like most things she wears,it’s set a trend. With an arm long list of celebs(that is everyone from Fergie from the talented Black Eye Peas to others etc) are making like Rihanna and rocking all things thorny.

An easy and perhaps safer way to dip into the trend is with accessories.

Love the long ASOS metal spike earrings, Hannah Martin’s ring dotted with rubies is available at Matches and is drool inducing! Giles & Brothers necklace is brilliant, one part tribal and one part tough warrior with unexpected jarring spikes. It is available at Net-A-Porter .

trend spotter // thigh high boots

The only boots you should be wearing this winter? The thigh high, what I affectionately like to call the thigh grazer. The women above clearly know how to make a pair work for variety of dress codes.

There is a host out there to suit a spectrum of tastes. Perforated? Stella McCartney has that covered and Rihanna has worn it. One part wader and all parts lust inducing? Miuccia Prada saw to it and Tolula smashed it with a furry pair of shorts.

The trick to keeping the thigh grazer out of ‘Pretty Woman hookersville’ territory is the sweet art of balance. Play with proportions.

Wearing mini lengths with a high heeled pair? Stay classy like Tolula by keeping the top loose fitting.

Make like Stella and gang by snagging a delish thigh grazer too. The fun part is there is one to suit each budget.

Purchase Topshop’s leather ‘Britany’ in cash for £100. Topshop’s yummy pair are great value for money. These are timeless. These you will wear over and over again. Throw it under a dress and a structured belted cardigan for the office. Or pair with a boyfriend blazer and slouchy micro shorts for night.

Write a cheque for the drool inducing Topshop Unique pair for £225. The heel on this baby is ferocious! Oh and did I mention the cut outs is the accentuated with elastic detailing?

Charge Stella McCartney’s faux leather pair to your credit card for £515. Stella how many ways do I love you? The wonderful faux leather, the do not mess with me gun metal heel. I could go on and on about its merits. I cannot finish counting the ways…

Happy Thigh Grazing!
