The Nail Polish Files // Chanel Nouvelle Vague

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Chanel’s Nouvelle Vague nail polish came, saw and conquered…

Peter Philips, Chanel’s creative director of cosmetics seems to know the way to a girls makeup bag.

In the summer of 2009 his limited edition Jade nail shade created a maelstrom of waiting lists, blogging fever and frenzied bidding on Ebay at inflated prices after it sold out in stores.

Half a year later, for autumn winter 2010 -2011 it was Chanel’s Particuliere that caused a similar storm. There were only a couple of hundred bottles of the putty meets clay meets taupe nail shade and it soon sold out. I did a feature on that shade and it’s doppelgangers here.

On the hay strewn Chanel spring summer 2010 catwalk, Philips had the clog wearing models bedecked in temporary tattoos and the Nouvelle Vague nail lacquer.

Both the temporary tattoos and the nail varnish shade ignited blog-o-fever.

Chanel Nouvelle Vague is an aqua blue meets teal meets turquoise shade. Some of my favourite look alikes are ‘Haymarket’ by Nails Inc, ‘Turquoise Top’ by Models Own, ‘For Audrey’ by China Glaze and Essie’s Greenport.

Here is to wondering what Peter Philips will have our makeup bags lusting after next?!

What are your thoughts on Chanel’s nail varnish waiting lists and frenzy?

Do you love or loathe Chanel’s Nouvelle Vague shade?

The shopping basket // clogs

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Where are you on the big clog debate? Love them or hate you cannot open a magazine or log unto five fashion blogs in a row without a mention of the debate starting footwear.

In The Shopping Basket today is clogs galore. I love the clean aesthetic of the crisp ChloƩ pair. They are perfect for the girl who wants to try the trend minus the usual clumpy factor associated with clogs.

Had your eye on Miu Miu’s swallow/floral print but don’t have enough pennies? The Jeffrey Campbell print pair would be a great alternative at a cheaper price point.

Which is your favourite pair?

So back to that debate.. are you clog crazy or are you con the clog?

beauty trend spotter // bleached blonde eyebrows

Bleached blonde eyebrows have been stalking editorials and the catwalk for a while now. I saw a lot of the peroxide light micro beauty trend on spring summer 2010 runways. At the Bottega Veneta spring summer 2010 show models of varying ethnic backgrounds rcoked the look in conjunction with plum lips and pulled back hair. Everyone from blue eyed Russian Sasha Pivovarova, Austrian brunette Iris Strubegger, stunning Chinese Liu Wen to African American model Chanel Iman had bleached eyebrows.

Off the catwalk, the likes of Australian model Kate Peck have been seen rocking the peroxide eyebrow. She was photographed by street style photographer Hanneli Mustaparta late last year with light bleached eyebrows as seen here.

I think the blonde brow really suits Peck.

Years ago I used to lighten my brows. Not to a light blonde but a honeyed dark brown shade. I found that it looked great with short hair and it opened up my eyes and face a bit more.

Personally I like the micro beauty trend and think that with most things it is all about the how it is done. It is not a case of one shade suits all. If done professionally with a hue that suits the specific complexion in question, it can work.

On the other side of the fence… Get the shade wrong in comparison to your complexion and you could either look a tad extra terrestrial or like you have had an accident with the Barbeque.

Enough of what I think though as it is your thoughts that count! Is the bleached blonde brow in your book a do or a don’t?

What say thou? // Chunky

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Dries Van Noten’s autumn winter 2010 – 2011 collection was an interesting mix of high and low. I really liked the contrast of the luxurious with the urban.

Although the shoes had a slight orthopedic feel to their steady chunky heel, they had me at go. It was a mix of satin, animal print, leather, suede etc uppers paired with a slanting chunky heel. I would not say no to pair or five…

sex and the city 2 london premiere

The Sex and the City girls hit London for the London premiere of Sex and The City 2 movie premiere last night. Looking at these images, I think they all smoldered for different reasons. I am even more excited to see the movie now, if that is at all possible! It is in UK cinemas as off today (28th May).

Sarah Jessica Parker wore a strapless Alexander McQueen gown and topped it off with a Phillip Treacy tulle headpiece. She created another hat moment, having worn a much talked about feather hat by the same milliner at the world premiere of the first Sex and The City movie.

Cynthia Nixon who plays high powered lawyer Miranda wore a teal blue Narciso Rodriguez. I think the teal blue gown looked gorgeous against her hair.

Kristin Davis looked every inch the effortless screen goddess in a shimmering gold sequin halter neck vintage Norman Norell gown.

Kim Cattrall shone like true old Hollywood in a vintage strapless black Thierry Mugler gown.

For all the fabulous images and video interviews from the premiere visit the Marie Claire UK site here.

They all looked wonderful for different reasons but who gets your best dressed vote in the poll below?

I’m a self confessed Twitter-holic.

There I said it.

I tweet about everything and nothing. It’s like that friend that you can call up at any random time. Particularly helpful when I am up from insomnia and bored out of head.

These are just a few of some my favourite tweets this week. Each got me thinking, smiling or crying with laughter.

Vote for your favourite in the poll at the bottom.

What Say Thou? // The Furry Brow

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

From the looks of the autumn winter 2010 catwalk shows, the only way for brows is hairy!

Everyone from Prada to Alberta Ferretti had models sporting a more hairy eyebrow, with some bordering on bushy.

Topshop Unique took it to even hairier heights with their enchanted woodland nymph girl sprouting furry eyebrows. Those brows can be seen in the above collage. The images are from Topshop’s Inside Out Blog. .

I know this look should really be repelling me but weirdly enough it is having the opposite effect.

I find it oddly enchanting…

I wish I could go about my daily errands (fashion styling, personal styling, fashion writing and consulting) sprouting an unapologetic bushy faux fur eyebrow.

Tempted as I am, I might have to give it a miss as it might give my clients a bit of a scare…

What are your thoughts on it? Is it a must do or a furry faux pas? Do you abhor or adore?

Do share via the vote poll and comment section. I’d Love to hear your thoughts!
