Inspiration
My outfits over the weekend (including the one above) were inspired by my ‘melting pot meets no brain effort meets bohemia’ mood. Sunday saw me sleep half the day away in a bid to shake off my bed bound end to last week. The rest of the day and weekend was spent with family, taking in the gorgeous sunshine and just taking it slow.

Boy jeans are much more fun
The nonchalant baggy cut of the gap mens jeans make them my to go to pair for lazy days. Saturday morphed into Sunday with them still on me. How I fell asleep with them on I shall never know. After a quick shower when I woke I threw them back on with the bikini top. Later on in the day, on my way out I pulled the Topshop vest over the top. I twisted the Momo scarf (part of the label’s London Fashion Week show goody bag three seasons ago) into a makeshift turban.

Hot buttered socks
The argyle socks were in the just laundered pile and so I pulled them on because there is something about freshly laundered socks. Plus argyle socks to me are like an instant mood lift. Paired with the open toe Carvela wood heels all was well in my world.

I like outfits that come into being on their own, with minimal thought, the ones that just sort of happen.

If I could have one superpower it would be invisibility

Like my post title ( a quote from 90′s TV show My So Called Life), some days I have an innate craving to retreat away into the comforting shadows and just watch the world go by. Do you ever have days like that? My hoods, snoods etc are perfect for this. They form this shield, a faux armour as it were, a protective layer which I can become invisible in. They also satisfy my seemingly incessant need to layer. I wore a no name cotton hood tshirt beneath a long sleeve jersey top. Both have been worn to death, both increasingly threadbare.

Into the land of tackydom and beyond
The h&m jumpsuit is such a versatile piece, I like to wear it slouchy as in the images. The slinky metallic lame one piece always makes for interesting conversation. It is a sure conversation starter because it hangs delicately on the border of the scary ‘land of tackydom‘. As I paid for it at the till the sales assistant actually tried to change my mind. She found it tacky at best, her words not mine. She also went on to say that it had been in the sale stock since forever. It had become part of the ‘unlovable’. I think my response might have been that even the tacky has potential, it is all in the how. She tutted with pity in her eyes, I paid and left with rescued jumpsuit in tow.

Not only Bears hibernate
Still on the hiding away topic, it is fascinating how items placed in certain locations get forgotten with time. Take these vintage necklaces for instance… I discovered them in the bottom of a dusty box in the bowels of a fairly neglected thrift shop. I think they had been there for years. Forgotten at the bottom of a box of well thumbed books. I have had them for years now and they seemed like the perfect addition to this outfit.

I am glad to have given the hibernating necklaces a new of lease of life. Oh and as for the jumpsuit, it like most things sometimes just need to be taken out of hiding and seen in a different light.

Awkward is good
I find the cut of these John Rocha pants intriguing. I was in the mood for their proportions and so I wore them over a pair of leggings.
I then threw on the vintage denim shirt and the cropped leather waistcoat. Alice the Frye boots was the finishing touch. I like ‘not quite there’ proportions put together; the Frye anke boots that are not quite ankle length, the awkward cut of the culotte like pants and the miniscule shrunken crop leather vest.

Power in numbers
They all just seem a tad more hopeful, brighter, bigger … when put together.

The more holes the better
I have been living in this vintage knit holey top. It is great over with everything. The other day I wore it over a nude dress, heeled boots and a trunk full of arm-wear. On Sunday I threw it on with the above pair of these self customised Zara jeans (I am a self confessed denim ripper!) and the Topshop bra-let. I like that sequin bra and jewellery add a bit of delicate femininity meets 90′s Courtney Love to the mix.

Bus stop adventures
I took the above shots while waiting for a bus to no where in particular. Sometimes its fun just to catch a bus till it’s last stop and make one’s way back home. I have found the most random thrift shops, obscure but wonderful restaurants and other hidden treasures this way. On the same day as these images I came across the weirdest charity thrift shop with the most amazing vintage sterling silver ring.

Destination unknown
For me it’s not about the final destination but the sights, the journey and experiences along the way.

Alfresco fun and Luella Monsters
These images were taken as I got ready to leave for an alfresco dinner at a girlfriend’s. Flickering tealights, coconut concoctions, making over my mini laptop with Luella monster stickers is always a great start to a night.

I am constantly perusing in the menswear sections of stores to the confusion of sale assistants. It was the colour that attracted me to the shirt.

Easy does it
As I got dressed for the dinner, my outfit was inspired by my ‘lazy bed lounge unrushed’ mood.

Sometimes all a girl craves is a great shirt, slacks and a handful of jewellery.

No Fuss
I was in the mood for an effortless one piece when I got dressed on Thursday. It was a day of work appointments ( press day previews, styling appointments etc) and two social events in the evening. So I wore the Clothing at Tesco’s Florence & Fred couture jacket (pictured in image of me standing next to a robot friend at UNIQLO press day) to make the day’s sedate jumpsuit dressy enough for the evening’s engagements too.

Magpies are drawn to shine
At the launch each guest was told they could pick a complimentary piece from the collection. I picked the crop sequin jacket in image above.

The collection was not to personal taste but I remember thinking that the jacket looked like a versatile piece.

I was attracted to it’s shine; due to an all over tiny sequin exterior. I also liked it’s cut and the volume in it’s sleeves.

It arrived by post a little while ago and Thursday was the first time I wore it.

The majority gets the vote
I always think the majority reaction to a piece gets the vote. The jacket totally gets my vote because nearly everyone I spoke to yesterday asked what brand my jacket was. A client at an afternoon styling appointment asked to try it on. Two perfect strangers came up to me on London’s busy Oxford street to ask what designer it was and so on and so forth.

At the Grace Jones by Chris Levine exhibition opening, three women came over to me to coo over it and a fourth shyly asked to try said jacket on.

Nearly everyone was shocked when I revealed it was the new couture line of a supermarket clothing range for £90.

I think it did a good job of keeping me smart enough for my day appointments but glam enough for the evening.

Sunday 18th April.

Sleep is overrated
Sleep and I have major issues, we are anything but bedfellows. I am forever up at unchic hours doing the most crazy mix of things; from fashion writing, diy’s, customising to tweeting etc. One such night (or is that morning?) at 2am in Marian’s Insomia adventures, chapter 4 billion , I put two broken Urban Outfitters necklaces together (ie the grey piece and green fringed piece). I and then twisted and knotted in the neon cords in an attempt to create a messy random finish.

Twisted cord
The necklace in addition to the beautiful weather on Sunday inspired the neutral garment palette in the photos above. I thought it would be great to off set the mad mash of necklaces and cord creation against the simplicity of white. I wore the outfit to a visit to a beautiful Countryside park with picturesque lakes. I will try to post some images of the park soon.

I finally went to bed at 4am this morning, what was I doing? Well when I could not sleep I ended up writing two articles and some styling research. I also customised another poor pair of jeans. The jeans I was wearing in my recent Bleak style diary post was another insomnia adventure.

I seem to come up with random but interesting diy/customised creations whenever I cannot sleep.

Maybe sleep and I not talking is not such a bad thing after all…

Saturday 17th April.

This floaty grey meets soft aubergine purple piece (I adore it’s hue) is the twin sister of this blush piece. Both pieces were picked up brand new in a thrift store. Their labels had been cut out so I unfortunately have no idea who they are by.

Weightless aspirations
Yesterday afternoon I was in the mood for it’s light translucent ‘ I have a mind of my own’ sort of nature. There is something free spirited and liberating by it’s form and graduating length. I wore it over this thin silver shot lurex knit vintage top. The acid washed and ripped Levi’s are perfect for lazy afternoons.

Sometimes weird makes sense
Don’t ask me why but to me the pale yellow lip colour just seemed to be the finishing piece to the outfit’s puzzle. You know when something just makes intrinsic sense but cannot be explained? That is how it was with the yellow lipstick.

The last piece in the puzzle
I think the best things come together when you are not looking to fit anything.

Hubby and I were in the car headed to our destination for the day. I spotted the wall on our way and liked how desolate it looked.

It was almost as if it encapsulated the complete mood of my outfit. I made him park abruptly to take these shots of me against it.

It was completely random and unplanned but I like the bleak and barren grey expanse of it all.

Easter Sunday.

Magpies like shine.

On Sunday the magpie in me was in the mood for shine. So I shimmied into this jumpsuit, it has the slinkiest molten feel. Over it I wore a sheer stripe blouse and a sequin vest.

I have a weakness for nail polish. I have a weekend size bag full of the stuff. My current favourites have a separate home; a bubblegum baby pink Vicki Ullah box that I got at the Charlie Le Mindu Autumn/Winter 2010 show. It was originally filled with goodies from his varying sponsors.

After getting dressed up, I went rummaging in the pink box for the nail colour of the day. I liked the idea of a faux ombre-esque effect with a different shade of polish from a similar palette on each nail.

I decided to dip into all my midnight inky blues, mermaid and beetle greens.

After looking at the images of me painting my nails, I realised the nails unintentionally matched the blues and greens of my rings.

Greens and blues go hand in hand
