Nicholas Kirkwood has been a busy man. He designed footwear for 12 spring summer 2011 collections including Rodarte, Erdem etc.
The Mulleavy sisters Rodarte Spring Summer 2011 collection was apparently inspired by their childhood backyard. This saw everything typically 1970′s Suburbia feature in the line-up.
The Kirkwood for Rodarte collaboration has resulted in some interesting footwear, including the autumn winter 2010 wax like heels. This season, the shoe designer, metaphorically climbs into Mulleavy’s childhood backyard and comes up with shoes inspired by wood paneling, the distinctive blue and white Chinese Ming dynasty porcelain, hand carved heels, embossed leather and a plethora of brown tones.
The use of the Ming porcelain takes us into the wacky but genius thinking that is the Mulleavy mind frame.
