Nicholas Kirkwood For Rodarte Spring Summer 2011

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

Nicholas Kirkwood has been a busy man. He designed footwear for 12 spring summer 2011 collections including Rodarte, Erdem etc.

The Mulleavy sisters Rodarte Spring Summer 2011 collection was apparently inspired by their childhood backyard. This saw everything typically 1970′s Suburbia feature in the line-up.

The Kirkwood for Rodarte collaboration has resulted in some interesting footwear, including the autumn winter 2010 wax like heels. This season, the shoe designer, metaphorically climbs into Mulleavy’s childhood backyard and comes up with shoes inspired by wood paneling, the distinctive blue and white Chinese Ming dynasty porcelain, hand carved heels, embossed leather and a plethora of brown tones.

The use of the Ming porcelain takes us into the wacky but genius thinking that is the Mulleavy mind frame.

The nut of it all is they are abso-freaking-lutely epic. Nicholas Kirkwood and the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte come together to form a collaborative genius.

This week I have been crushing on Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte autumn winter 2010 – 2011 heels! The image above as shot by Tommy Ton (of the yummy Jak & Jil blog) shows just how epic these shoes are. I so want the faux melting wax heeled shoes! Loved when the heels lit up at the finale of Rodarte’s autumn winter 2010 – 2011 show. Crush inducing!

Some time ago, a girlfriend after my heart, gave me a Wilbur & Gussie clutch for my birthday. Since then, I have been a devoted Wilbur & Gussie fan. The label makes the most divine clutches! Their popular envelope ‘Charlie’ design comes in either in a variety of prints or in a scope of varying bold colours. I have fallen head over clutch for it in the cobalt blue! Do not even get me started on the clasp.

Earlier this week a very sweet client surprised me with a lovely box of Crumbs and Doilies cupcakes. I felt guilty for gorging on the yummy creations as they looked almost too delightful to nibble on!
The guilt did not last long and soon the whole box was gone. The cupcakes were dreamy and I wish I had remembered to take a photo of them.

I am still utterly besotted by Miu Miu spring summer 2010 line up. The child meets woman collection is so Lolita! Who knew smocking, giant sequins, sheer, cat+dog+naked women prints would work so delightfully together?! These close ups from backstage at the show are dreamy. I fell head over cats for the prints!

Oh Rodarte!

The details of the Rodarte autumn/winter 2010-2011 are a feast for the eyes. Dip dye crochet, fuzzy glory, embroidered sheers, patchworked delights, Nicholas Kirkwoods shoes, knits, desolate florals and I could go on.
