Award winning nail and hand care range, MAVALA Switzerland, offers natural nail care and an array of 200 plus nail shades (in a variety of finishes; cream, metallic, glitter and pearl). Their nail formula encourage nails to breath by delivering microscopic air pockets. They are also 8Free; with no camphor, Animal ingredients, heavy metal, toluene, collophane, phthalates, paraben and formaldehyde.

They are memorable in size, packaged in 5ml pots. Perfect for the girl who finds that her nail polish dries up before she reaches the bottom.

The Nail Polish Files // Chanel Nail Lacquer Fall 2011 Graphite Peridot Quartz

What the Chanel nail color powers dictate, other brands (how long do you give it till there are more doppelgangers than you can count?) and our nails follow.

For fall it is a trio of seemingly mineral inspired, pearl nail colors.

Graphite which has got beauty enthusiasts buzzing is a grayish black hue with a glittery finish. Peridot (my personal favorite) like the gem namesake is a gold meets green hue. Last up in the line-up is Quartz, is a pearly taupe brown.

If you are looking for inspiration for your next manicure, look no further. During my time at the New York Fashion Week fall winter 2011-2012 shows I spotted strong emerging manicure trends.

Everything from metallic tips at the likes of Jason Wu, tuxedo inspired at Ruffian, crescent moons at shows like Joanna Mastroianni, inspired by toe cleavage at Behnaz Sarafpour right through to opulent Far Eastern inspired nails at The Blonds and Jen Kao. All these manicures were created by CND

Also duly noted was the emerging trend of flesh tones contrasted with the inky or black hues. For fall, the spotlight turns on nails.

The Nail Polish Files // Glitter Nail Polish

Glittery nails need not be tacky. Keep things looking more high fashion and less cheapville with an interesting colour pathway.

Here are a few choices to inspire. With glitter nail shades like this, who says you have to limit the shine to just your jewellery?

1. Deborah Lippmann’s ‘Glitter in the air’ is sky blue hue with flecks blue and pink glitter running through it.

2. Rescue Beauty Lounge not only keep all the nasty stuff out of the nail lacquer (Toluene, Formaldehyde, or DBP) but they also have some memorable shades. ‘Look Rich Be Cheap’ is a gold and rich purple glitter varnish.

3. Models Own keep things fun but budget friendly with their collection of nail polish. Their ‘Pink Fizz’ glitter nail polish is a great way to get into this look.

4. Swiss brand, Mavala, bottle their nail colours in dinky little bottles. I love that this helps me to finish a bottle before it dries. Their ‘Black Diamond’ glitter shade is perfect for the girl who wants the shine in a dark hue.

The Nail Polish Files // Chanel Black Pearl

This might end up being the nail colour we are going to be longing for by Spring. Chanel Black Pearl; is an interesting hue that can only be described as an ink spill meets fresh water pearl. From the catwalk images the dark grayish green colour reminds me of the incandescent inner shell of an oyster.

Anyone tried/or looking to try it yet and if so, thoughts?

The Nail Polish Files // Chanel Riva

Never judge a book by its cover. I know it looks like your typical unassuming wallflower baby blue nail shade but I’ve seen images of it on nails and it looks completely different. On nails its has a glassy icy finish and is more a sparkly silver grey meets ocean blue in hue.

I am seduced by Riva’s glacial gloss and first noticed the shade when it made its debut on the Chanel 2010/2011 cruise catwalk (it is part of the Côte d’Azur Makeup Collection).

Anyone tried/or looking to try it yet and if so, thoughts?

The Nail Polish Files // WAH Nails For Models Own

As you can tell from the images above, hip east London nail art boutique, WAH Nails, is the go to destination for “bad ass nails” (as the brand puts it).

WAH Nails founder, Sharmadean Reid has joined forces with makeup line, Models Own to create nail art pens.

The pens as seen in the first image, currently come in two choices (white and black) retail for £6 and have a duo application system. A thin nib which allows for intricate art work and a long thin brush to add strokes and lines.

If you are a fan of creative nails, now you can experiment with it yourself.
