My London Fashion Week // Neely Reyes

Friday, August 20th, 2010

I hope you have enjoyed the My London Fashion Week series so far.

This aim of this series has been to share how varying people attending LFW, are getting ready for it.

London Fashion Week is now shortly upon us, with the first shows kicking off on September 17th.

It is my pleasure to feature the next installment in the segment.

Name: Neely Reyes.

Occupation:

Founder & Managing Partner of ethical modelling agency, Sapphires Model Management.

My Personal Style in 5 Words:

Retro, Contradiction, Vivid, Comfortable, Demure.

1. Two things that are absolute musts in your bag for fashion week?

My BlackBerry and business cards. Work never stops!

2. Three things that you are doing to prep for fashion week?

-Preparing our show packs to send out to designers for London Fashion Week
castings.
-Arranging schedules for our models.
-Making the most of quiet London before it gets chaotic!

3. One reason why London Fashion week is amazing?

LFW is amazing, not just because of the fantastic shows, but also because of all the weird and wonderful people who attend. My favorite thing apart from watching the shows, is watching the people.

4. Your fail safe tip for getting through the hectic back to back show schedule?

Plan ahead and if all else fails, run!

5. High heels or flats at fashion week?

Heels for the first day or two until my feet say no more, then quietly resign to wearing flats.

6. One outfit you will be wearing at fashion week?

I wish I planned that far ahead! Last season I saw a man wearing a fez, slippers and a smoking jacket. I will have to work hard to top that!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

I loved her answers! The one about the man in the Fez hat and a smoking jacket put a smile on my face as I remember seeing him too.

Her stance on the flat or heels at fashion week debate is similar to mine. I wear heels till my feet revolt and then it is on to flat biker boots or chic brogues.

I look forward to seeing beautiful Neely at fashion week.

my london fashion week // Courtney Blackman

Second up in this season’s My London Fashion Week segment is Courtney Blackman.

I thought she was perfect for this series as she is involved with London Fashion week at varying levels through her work with the Fashion Business Club (co-founded with with fellow Co-Chairman Alison Whelan), Forward PR and Ethical Fashion Forum.

I am honoured to feature this beautiful, inspiring and very busy woman.

Read on to find out how she is getting ready for London Fashion Week spring summer 2011, her fabulous tips on getting through the week, fail safe outfit and more.

Name: Courtney Blackman

Occupation:
Founder & Managing Director, Forward PR
Co-Founder & Co-Chairman, Fashion Business Club
Board Member, Ethical Fashion Forum

My Personal Style in 5 Words: Quirky, seventies meets dominatrix, experimental.

1. Two things that are absolute musts in your bag for fashion week?

Flat shoes and my iPad.

2. Three things that you are doing to prep for fashion week?

-Registering for it on the London Fashion Week website.

-Forward PR is doing the eco-label, Prophetik’s catwalk show again at Vauxhall Fashion Scout this season, so doing about 300 things to prep for that: assisting with castings, fittings, testings, production, guest list, invitation process, gift bag collaborators, staffing, pre-show interviews, and on and on!

-Trying to be as healthy (eating well, getting enough sleep and exercising) beforehand, as the week will wipe me out – per usual. I always forget to eat or drink water, and sleeping is minimal. There are so many events (shows, parties, launches) and meeting people, it’s exhausting, but a complete blast!

3. One reason why London Fashion week is amazing?

Originality

4. Your fail safe tip for getting through the hectic back to back show schedule?

Can I offer more than one?

Taxis! Start saving now! Make a ‘London Fashion Week’ jar for loose change and donations.

Enlist a ‘Fashion Week Friend’ or two. It makes the queuing and waiting that more tolerable. Stylist, Rebekah Roy has been my ‘FWF’ for years, but she’s started styling so many shows, that she’s had to go part-time. If anyone would like to be a new part-time ‘FWF,’ let me know!

…and the best tip I could ever give: if you’re over 30, don’t drink alcohol at parties and such until the very end of the week.

5. High heels or flats at fashion week?

Heels at first until your feet can no longer bear it (see question 1).

6. One outfit you will be wearing at fashion week?

Cute, cute Jasper Garvida has made me the most perfect dress, so I’ll probably have that on one day. It’s in his exclusive ‘Malachite’ print of swirls of gradient greens silver and black. I’ll probably team it with a super-luxe, black Magenta 8 cap-sleeve, capelet, Chanel sunglasses, and carry S.C. Vizcarra’s ‘Amanda’ bag – a gorgeous, slouchy, woven-leather number that can accommodate that extra pair of shoes, show tickets, a bottle of water, business cards and snacks!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

I adore Courtney! Her work ethic is incredible and zest for life is an inspiration.

The Taxi fund Jar and having a FWF(fashion week friend) are brilliant tips! I have a few fashion week buddies that totally keep the otherwise mundane queuing fun.

Courtney has adventurous style and how fantastic is the way she describes it? ( her words were that it is Quirky, seventies meets dominatrix, experimental in her answer) and always looks amazing. I cannot wait to see her wearing the Jasper Garvida dress.

Underwear as outerwear-I love it!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

I knew I was going to like Susie forever when I first met her. She was super sweet. She was wearing this gorgeous velvet wine/burgundy coloured faux fur vest and ballet flats in same palette. The ballet flats were the cutest!

On that day, I also found out that she was crushing on the Miu Miu clogs too.

Don’t you just love her answers?! I adore that she cannot wait to see what Burberry do with their 3D streaming. I am totally on the edge of my seat for that one!

Oh and a girl who likes the underwear as outerwear?… Is totally in my good books for life.

FASHIONAIR, the fashion and style company that Susie works for, is addictive! The site has the best in inspiring fashion video programs. My favourite videos include the 7 Days of Chic, the videos in this series show 7 Days of someone’s style. Love!

Also their genius Closet Quick Hit ‘ gives glimpses into the wardrobes of the fabulous and stylish. Adore the one that featured New York based designer Rachel Roy. She has incredible style and her wardrobe as featured in FASHIONAIR’s video will make you weep with envy.

My London Fashion Week // Juliet Hutton-Squire

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Photo Credit: Courtesy of Juliet Hutton-Squire

Next up in the ‘My London Fashion Week’ series is a busy woman with a warm personality and amazing taste. The last time I bumped into her I was drooling over all the jewellery she had on! Hope you like this piece as I loved her answers.

Name: Juliet Hutton-Squire
Occupation: Editor of Adorn-London, the ultimate showcase of jewellery trends and style.

1. Two things you getting ready for London fashion week?

My camera and my appointment diary.

2. What shows and presentations will be you have an eye out for jewellery wise?

Presentations: Holly Fulton and MFPepe Catwalks: Mary Katrantzou, Paul Smith, Nicole Farhi, Central St Martins and then of course I love the exhibitions where I will be seeing the new collections from the likes of Mawi, Erickson Beamon, Fannie Schiavoni and Fiona Paxton.

3. Three pieces of jewellery that you will be wearing over the course fashion week?

Ethical horn loop necklace by Made UK, Yves St Laurent ring from the ‘Arty Collection’ and vintage micro mosaic brooch. I love micro mosaic – it is like a jewelled tapestry and I see it as jewellery’s alternative to Fendi’s ‘Granny Bag’.

4. One fashion and jewellery trend each you think everyone will be wearing at fashion week?
Clogs!! Jewellery wise, I expect to see lots of layering and stacking as well as Signature pieces from seasonal collections. Last year Swarovski Atelier, Marni, Mawi, Marc for Marc Jacobs and Vintage featured prominently.

5. Your fail safe go to beauty product that keeps you going at Fashion week?

Hand cream as I will be looking at lots of jewellery and it is important to keep my hands looking good. A friend gave me ‘Hand Food’ by Soap & Glory and said, “you will never look back”. I must admit, she was right!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Juliet she is the sweetest! How effortlessly glam does she look in that black and white shot? It has got me wishing it was summer, I am so inspired to throw on a wide brimmed hat and shades.

Adoring Juliet’s answers too. A girl who wears micro mosaic pieces is a girl after my own heart. There is just something wonderfully intricate about it that gets me every time. Her quote on it being jewellery’s alternative to Fendi’s ‘Granny Bag’ is totally going into my-fashion-quotes-hall-of-fame.

Juliet is utterly spot on about the clogs. Love them or loathe them (I am on the love fence dependent on design), something tells me they will be abundant at LFW.

You have to check and bookmark the Adorn-London site! Juliet edits the one stop shop for all things jewellery. Yummy features? Check. Interviews with fab jewellery folk? Check. Drool inducing layout and trend focused articles? Check. Jewllery advice wanted? Done. Adorn-London is all that and so much more. Lets just say this little birdie is very addicted to it.

Thanks to lovely Juliet.
