Socks and sandals are one of those pairings that always brew debate. Like designers like Marni, Christopher Bailey for Burberry Prorsum, John Galliano for Christian Dior and etc on spring summer 2010 catwalks, I am all for it. I have always liked socks with my sandals and have a large sock drawer filled with a host of the stuff. Slouchy socks, glittery mesh socks, neon socks, patterned socks and simple old plain ankle socks. What side of the sock and sandal debate are you on?

The weather has been gorgeous in my part of the world lately. So it’s been crop tops and slouchy vintage shorts galore. I really like the cut of the white Carven top. I also like the 90′s feel of the Mark Fast long sleeve crop top.

I am hankering after simple neon pieces with a slight tribal or sporty feel. They look great paired with nudes and those Keds would be perfect for all Summer’s short hem lengths. I love that Jimmy Choo heels available at Net-A-Porter light up! The shock of neon pink and yellow are balanced out by the strappy black patent leather upper. The Splendid racer back top is the perfect summer vest. Everyone needs a simple black lace top and this Topshop lace top would do the trick.

Lately I have been obsessing over Pamela Love’s talon rings and earring. I really like them in the silver option and how epic is the Pamela Love talon double ring?

This fact that I am lusting after this book is a total no brainer. It features Paris Vogue’s most iconic covers from 1920 -2009. I am eager to see which covers made the cut.

I think the whole Mister Mascara brand is the cutest! I was a faux eyelash virgin till I discovered the cutesy Mister Mascara Striptease lash hit blue (as pictured in collage above) in a goodybag at a show at fashion week. I have had fun wearing the pair a few times now. They are not as bright as in the product image.

I love it when a designer takes a print or fabric that usually gets overlooked and turns into a ‘trampede mania causing’ creation. That is sort of how I feel about Christopher Kane’s gingham designs. The collection was rockabiliy meets prairie meets lolita. The pleating, panelling, embellishment, sheer inserts, intricate construction etc (seen in the close up detail shots on right) completely turns gingham’s yawn inducing school girl sterotype on it’s head.

Prick me with a Safety Pin

I cannot get enough of safety pin earrings. There are quite a few on he market but adoring these two pairs. The stone embellished pair is by Genevieve Jones. Her ‘Wishing safety pin’ earrings come in a wide variety of stones and material. Tom Binns elongated ‘Classic gold safety pin’ pair are to drool for too.

I am still utterly besotted by Miu Miu spring summer 2010 line up. The child meets woman collection is so Lolita! Who knew smocking, giant sequins, sheer, cat+dog+naked women prints would work so delightfully together?! These close ups from backstage at the show are dreamy. I fell head over cats for the prints!

Oh Rodarte!

The details of the Rodarte autumn/winter 2010-2011 are a feast for the eyes. Dip dye crochet, fuzzy glory, embroidered sheers, patchworked delights, Nicholas Kirkwoods shoes, knits, desolate florals and I could go on.

Obsessions : January

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

For the first month of 2010 I am completely fixated on…

1. Dolce & Gabbana’s wedges.

Images Style.com

Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall/Winter 2009 collection was full of surreal 40′s glam details. The suede wedges were in keeping with the 40′s feel. The embellishment on them is divine! How amazing are the ruffled pair? The first pair are fabulous,a pearl it is encasing shell.Heart!

2. Ear Cuffs

Images- Marios Schwab from Vogue.co.uk, Repossi from Myspecialstash.blogspot.com, Alexander Wang from Fashiontoast.com and Vintage ear cuff from Nasty Gal

There is something about ear cuffs that I find compelling. I think in present times this 80′s fad is done right when it has the right balance of the ethnic influence and the conceptual. The clip variety is convenient seeing that my lobes are unpierced.

3. Lounge Lover

Images Net-A-Porter.com

This label makes the best lounge wear ever! I should know, I wear it constantly. Each piece is baby soft(jerseys, cashmeres in a neutral palette of grey, black, tan etc). It is perfect for remaining chic while relaxing. The two can co-exist. The long sleeve jersey top is amazing it has thumb holes which is a rad plus to any piece. Sylvie Gabriel the gorgeous designer behind the label believes in an ‘easy chic ethos which totally works.

4. The Dries Van Noten Sweater

Images Style.com and google images

I don’t know if I have ever seen a more perfect sweater. This Dries Van Noten design from his Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 collection has been stalking my dreams! The slouchy grungey cut, the delish colour, the fuzzy texture…
I could go on and on.

5. Epic Green Nail Lacquer

Images – Dickweed by BLEACH BLACK from Needsupply.com, O.P.I rainforest from Polyvore.com, Butter London from Blogher.com and Nails Inc from Debenhams.com

There is green nail polish and there is green nail polish. Before I confuse you let me make myself clear by saying the latter is usually epic, slightly other worldly and abso-freaking-fabulous. I was all over green nail in high school like a rash. It had to be a dark ambigious vampy green and that love is still burning today.

“Dickweed” by Kristin and Val of rad conversational LA based Fashion diary blog BLEACH BLACK is perfect. It is one part Malachite green, one part Beetle green and all parts lust inducing. The limited edition polish is available at Need Supply.

Another fave is “Thames” by fab London nail polish company, Butter LONDON. I love the hue, the fact that the colour is free from harmful carcinogens. The packaging is great.

London based Nail Inc’s “Kensington Palace” is a wonderful mix of bottle green and an inky petrol blue shade. I am addicted to it.

1. Pamela Love jewellery for Zac Posen

Images from Style.com and Opening Ceremony

Pamela Love’s romantic-macabre-gothic Alice in Wonderland jewellery collaboration with Posen is delightfully curious. The collection line-up includes headbands, belts, and earrings, brooches bedecked with irises, rose buds, leaves and unexpected jarring spike studs. It first made its debut in Zac Posen’s Autumn/Winter 2009 catwalk show left and had me hypnotised. Zac and Pamela’s muse for the jewellery is Alice in Wonderland. They could not have picked a better muse.

2. Yves Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2010 shoes

Images from Style.com

How much do I love these shoes? Let me count the ways…

I love the lines, adore its structure, and fell head over heels for its dark romance sensibilities. The wilted effect roses are truly epic.

3. Roland Mouret’s stellar selection for Net-A-Porter

Row one-Isa and Ostadar.Row two-Ziad and Orion. Row three Seferino and Osu. Row four-Armitola and Ziad. Images from Net-A-Porter

Mouret, who is known for his structure, gave us the ‘Galaxy’ in his Spring/Summer 2006 collection. The design went on to be worn by many an A list celebrity and endearingly called the dress of the season. His ‘Moon’ design was just as popular. Now he has created a spectacular collection exclusively for Net-A-Porter.

The designs in a bold palette are aptly named the Rainbow collection. From ‘Isa’ an asymmetric turquoise mini dress with draped hips in a stretch silk gazar to the tangerine orange ‘Ostadar’ with a deep v neck to two piece designs like the rose pink ‘Ziad’ skirt suit. Each is as fabulous as the next. The question will not be whether to buy, the dilemma darling is which one.

4. Winter Accessories

Row one Karl Donoghue earmuffs and Burberry Argyle-print wool-blend snood .Row two- Nina Peter studded elbow length gloves and Aubin & Wills wool and cashmere-blend deerstalker hat.Images from Net-A-Porter

Winter is the perfect excuse to stock up on the cutest accessories! From snoods, hand muffs, earmuffs to scarves there is a host of Winter warmers to chose from. I say spoil yourself rotten. One has to stay warm right? ;x)

I’m off to obsess some more about these.

Marian.
