I am MAJORLY crushing on Anita Quansah’s necklaces! I did a piece on her work here.

It is the clever mix of tribal/ethnic influences, feminine , embellished and the eclectic details of her bespoke handmade jewellery designs that has me crushing hard.

I like that she re-uses vintage elements in her designs with new materials to unique effect.

The fact that each piece is a one off? All the more alluring.

There is a lot of body jewellery out there but the piece in image three is incredible! My mind is going crazy just thinking of the gazillion ways I would wear it.

Which design catches your eye?

See more of Anita’s designs on her Flickr and at her website.

My London Fashion Week // Juliet Hutton-Squire

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Photo Credit: Courtesy of Juliet Hutton-Squire

Next up in the ‘My London Fashion Week’ series is a busy woman with a warm personality and amazing taste. The last time I bumped into her I was drooling over all the jewellery she had on! Hope you like this piece as I loved her answers.

Name: Juliet Hutton-Squire
Occupation: Editor of Adorn-London, the ultimate showcase of jewellery trends and style.

1. Two things you getting ready for London fashion week?

My camera and my appointment diary.

2. What shows and presentations will be you have an eye out for jewellery wise?

Presentations: Holly Fulton and MFPepe Catwalks: Mary Katrantzou, Paul Smith, Nicole Farhi, Central St Martins and then of course I love the exhibitions where I will be seeing the new collections from the likes of Mawi, Erickson Beamon, Fannie Schiavoni and Fiona Paxton.

3. Three pieces of jewellery that you will be wearing over the course fashion week?

Ethical horn loop necklace by Made UK, Yves St Laurent ring from the ‘Arty Collection’ and vintage micro mosaic brooch. I love micro mosaic – it is like a jewelled tapestry and I see it as jewellery’s alternative to Fendi’s ‘Granny Bag’.

4. One fashion and jewellery trend each you think everyone will be wearing at fashion week?
Clogs!! Jewellery wise, I expect to see lots of layering and stacking as well as Signature pieces from seasonal collections. Last year Swarovski Atelier, Marni, Mawi, Marc for Marc Jacobs and Vintage featured prominently.

5. Your fail safe go to beauty product that keeps you going at Fashion week?

Hand cream as I will be looking at lots of jewellery and it is important to keep my hands looking good. A friend gave me ‘Hand Food’ by Soap & Glory and said, “you will never look back”. I must admit, she was right!

Juliet she is the sweetest! How effortlessly glam does she look in that black and white shot? It has got me wishing it was summer, I am so inspired to throw on a wide brimmed hat and shades.

Adoring Juliet’s answers too. A girl who wears micro mosaic pieces is a girl after my own heart. There is just something wonderfully intricate about it that gets me every time. Her quote on it being jewellery’s alternative to Fendi’s ‘Granny Bag’ is totally going into my-fashion-quotes-hall-of-fame.

Juliet is utterly spot on about the clogs. Love them or loathe them (I am on the love fence dependent on design), something tells me they will be abundant at LFW.

You have to check and bookmark the Adorn-London site! Juliet edits the one stop shop for all things jewellery. Yummy features? Check. Interviews with fab jewellery folk? Check. Drool inducing layout and trend focused articles? Check. Jewllery advice wanted? Done. Adorn-London is all that and so much more. Lets just say this little birdie is very addicted to it.

Visit the site here and follow on twitter here

Thanks to lovely Juliet.

Obsessions: December

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

1. Pamela Love jewellery for Zac Posen

Images from Style.com and Opening Ceremony

Pamela Love’s romantic-macabre-gothic Alice in Wonderland jewellery collaboration with Posen is delightfully curious. The collection line-up includes headbands, belts, and earrings, brooches bedecked with irises, rose buds, leaves and unexpected jarring spike studs. It first made its debut in Zac Posen’s Autumn/Winter 2009 catwalk show left and had me hypnotised. Zac and Pamela’s muse for the jewellery is Alice in Wonderland. They could not have picked a better muse.

2. Yves Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2010 shoes

Images from Style.com

How much do I love these shoes? Let me count the ways…

I love the lines, adore its structure, and fell head over heels for its dark romance sensibilities. The wilted effect roses are truly epic.

3. Roland Mouret’s stellar selection for Net-A-Porter

Row one-Isa and Ostadar.Row two-Ziad and Orion. Row three Seferino and Osu. Row four-Armitola and Ziad. Images from Net-A-Porter

Mouret, who is known for his structure, gave us the ‘Galaxy’ in his Spring/Summer 2006 collection. The design went on to be worn by many an A list celebrity and endearingly called the dress of the season. His ‘Moon’ design was just as popular. Now he has created a spectacular collection exclusively for Net-A-Porter.

The designs in a bold palette are aptly named the Rainbow collection. From ‘Isa’ an asymmetric turquoise mini dress with draped hips in a stretch silk gazar to the tangerine orange ‘Ostadar’ with a deep v neck to two piece designs like the rose pink ‘Ziad’ skirt suit. Each is as fabulous as the next. The question will not be whether to buy, the dilemma darling is which one.

4. Winter Accessories

Row one Karl Donoghue earmuffs and Burberry Argyle-print wool-blend snood .Row two- Nina Peter studded elbow length gloves and Aubin & Wills wool and cashmere-blend deerstalker hat.Images from Net-A-Porter

Winter is the perfect excuse to stock up on the cutest accessories! From snoods, hand muffs, earmuffs to scarves there is a host of Winter warmers to chose from. I say spoil yourself rotten. One has to stay warm right? ;x)

I’m off to obsess some more about these.

Marian.
