Restoin Roitfeld and Valmorbida collaborated with Giorgio Armani on this important exhibition. The fashion designer is a Hambleton enthusiast and is quoted as saying: “I have long been a fan of Richard Hambleton. Richard’s work is of the streets, and for me stands as a reminder that art in all its forms is first and foremost driven by individual passion and creativity.”

About Hambleton and the exhibition, curators Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Andy Valmorbida are quoted as saying: “Richard Hambleton’s brush stroke as an artist is genius and is in a league of its own. Australian artist, John Kelly is holding an exhibition at Agnew’s (noted for being one of the world’s leading international art dealerships) for the first time. Kelly is best known for his eight metre high ‘Cow Up A Tree’ bronze first exhibited on the Champs Élysées in Paris which marked the turn of the millennium.

The focal point of the exhibition will be his life scale models of actual museums and galleries. These include scale models of the renowned Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim in New York and London’s Tate Modern.

According to the release -

“the sculptures on show at Agnew’s will invite interpretation on more than one level. The flavours of wit and irony that permeate many of the pieces on display represent a constant throughout Kelly’s career. Suspended from the ceiling or raised up on easel legs, many of Kelly’s sculptures occupy a very ‘human’ space, allowing the intricacies and beauty of their design and construction to be viewed at close quarters, and from almost every angle.”

The exhibition will also feature work that touches on the Kelly’s relationship with his parents as seen in ‘Mum & Dad@Tate Modern’, pictured above.

It was announced in December 2009 Belgian Maison Martin Margiela was no longer the creative director of the Margiela business. His conceptual deconstructionist avantgarde work over the last 20 years has always challenged the conventional fashion system, it’s body ideals and it’s approaches to innovation.

Somerset House is the host venue to the London segment of the Maison Martin Margiela ‘20’ The Exhibition. This major international touring exhibition featuring film, photography, installation and garments is the definitive Margiela experience. It is to celebrate 20 years of the brand and it’s influence. The Maison Martin Margiela ’20′ The Exhibition as initiated by Margiela and Fashion Museum Province of Antwerp. It was curated by Mode Museum (MoMu) ,where it began the tour.

The exhibition is open from June 3rd to 5th September in the Embankment Galleries, Somerset House. Tickets are £6.

Maison Martin Margiela’s ethos of the anti-brand, deconstruction, nondescript branding, interpretation of the form, view to seasonal trends etc changed my personal conception of fashion. I look forward to seeing the exhibition.
