Eco Fabulous // OlsenHaus

Functionality and social responsibility is the philosophy behind vegan shoe line, olsenHaus.

The footwear brand has to be my favorite eco fabulous find in a while.

Graphic architectural structure that is not only 100% vegan but also mindful of human rights, environmental issues and ecosystems? Count my feet in.

Wouldn’t they work a treat with the spring summer color-blocking trend?

Eco Fabulous // Organic Surge

Monday, December 13th, 2010

What is on your beauty counter lately?

Just stumbled on a brand that is simply eco fabulous.

Don’t you just love a beauty product that is not only works but is also made from all the great stuff like pure plant extracts, organic essential oils (minus the nasty stuff such as synthetic perfumes, artificial colorants, artificial parabens, sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate and all those harsh ingredients that are not great for you or the environment) and is cruelty free?

Other reasons why I am keeping my eye on Organic Surge include the facts that it is set at an affordable price range and finally, a percentage of profits go to two charities supporting orphaned children in Kenya and Uganda.

Eco Fabulous // Thomas Lyte

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

I have had my eye on the Thomas Lyte Powles Poolside Bag for a while. The bag is featured is on the right of the bottom row in the collage above. I like how compact and polished it is in structure. It fits in with the ladylike bag trend as featured here. The fact that it has a zip all along the bag’s edge that allows it to be unzipped all the way down is genius. Now that is a feature I would not mind having on every bag I own. Would sure make for easy packing.

Thomas Lyte is an ethical English luxury brand with focus on well crafted leather and silver products. Their bags, wallets, purses, travel accessories are made in London based workshops.

The fact that they do compromise on quality and strive to be ethical makes them Eco Fabulous.

Eco friendly products that kick the outdated stereotype that the environmentally friendly equals unattractive get top row space on my bathroom shelf.

What we put on our skin and hair is as important (if not more!) as what we put in our bodies. I am a huge fan of all natural beauty products which are free from harmful parabens. My Eco – Fabulous segment is dedicated to sharing them with you.

Stella McCartney stays in keeping with her environment friendly and sexy meets effortless modern ethos with her new skin line.

Care by Stella McCartney is made from 100% certified bio-active ingredients. It contains no petrochemical products or synthetic preservatives.

McCartney’s philosophy is her products has what your skin needs and does not have what your skin does not need.

The unisex body skincare line is packaged in recyclable materials. McCartney has thought of everything, including a recycling program set up by the brand. The Stella McCartney Recycle Care Program is such a great incentive.

This line gets Mariankihogo.com’s Eco Fabulous stamp of approval. It proves that a beauty product can be luxurious at no cost to the environment or one’s health.

I am always on the look out for new and emerging talent. Anita Quansah is one such talent you should know.

The designer studied textile design at Chelsea College of Art and Design London. `Her hand embroidered textile focused work (garments, jewellery and interior textiles) sees Quansah employ reclaimed, recycled and vintage fabrics and mixed metals in one off intricate designs.

Quansah’s jewellery ( a few as pictured in the first collage) includes elements such as ribbons, metals (oxidized silver, gold and gunmetal), fringing, pearls, ribbon and rhinestones etc

Quansah has added her unique embroidery on garments for design houses such as DKNY, Diane Von Furstenberg, Ischiko, Victoria Secret and Ecko. She has collaborated with textiles companies such as Weisbrod Zurrer and Sandy Starkman.

In 2004 she designed and embroidered a jacket which featured in the Christian Lacroix Haute Couture show.

The designer quotes art, architecture, fashion (both contemporary and vintage), music, creativity, travel, and nature as sources of inspiration for her work.

Her designs are synonymous with sophistication, femininity and ethnic chic and have been featured in the likes of German Vogue, British Vogue, Dare2magazine, Muse, German Tush and Vision etc.

Images of Duchess Marden products from Duchess Marden website and Puresha.com

Anyone who knows me knows I am in love with eco -friendly beauty products. Let me make myself super clear just in case the word eco is currently conjuring up boring drab packaged products.

I mean eco-fabulous beauty products that look just as great as they feel. They are luxurious, pampering and free of harmful chemicals. I have on speed dial Essential Care’s Gentle Herb Shampoo for my hair, Jo Wood’s Tula Exfoliating scrub for my face and body etc.

One of my eco-fabulous favourites is the Duchess Marden brand. I am addicted to their Foam Cleanser; it is effective for taking my make-up off but does so gently. Another Duchess Marden personal favourite is the Damascena Rose Water. It is truly super invigorating!

Duchess Marden was started by American, Marla Steuer after a journey to South East Asia and a desert trek through India. There she learnt about healing & hydrating properties of the rose, which she incorporated into an all natural sensual skincare line. The line is free of parabens, petrochemicals and chemical preservatives.

I am super glad Marla started this line as the products look and feel stunning! It goes to show that all natural products do not have to be unsightly.
