Camera Obscura // Flower Child

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Not all floral prints are created equal.

There are whimsy bohemian vintage florals, fade into the wallpaper florals, bold hyper digital florals, graphic pop art florals and ditsy feminine wile filed florals. The list of the floral tribes goes on and on.

I’m pretty fussy when it comes to my florals, with some tribes garnering more love from me than others.

The vintage Kenzo florals (as seen on me in photo) in my wardrobe are my long term favorite child section of my closet.

Camera Obscura // Head Wrap Girl

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Once a head wrap girl, always a head wrap girl.
I’ve a soft place in my heart for turbans and scarves that can be tied up in a heart beat.

Camera Obscura // A Cab In A New York Minute

Monday, February 11th, 2013

So New Yorkers cannot apparently hail a cab in a New York minute but I still cannot stop obsessing about easily they seem to hail them.

Talking New York City and her iconic yellow cabs, the Kate Spade fall 2013 presentation had me at go with the cab and checkerboard trim inspiration.

Taking this shot by one was the best alternative to taking one home with me.

Camera Obscura // Twice As Nice

Tuesday, January 15th, 2013

When it is so nice, you have to buy it twice.

The mix of Peter Pilotto’s print, color and textile in conjunction with Kirkwood’s architectural structure made getting these shoes in two colorways a no brainer. Collaboration at its finest.

There is something about the hollow steel heel with a primary color on the inside.

Camera Obscura // If Clothes Could Talk

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

When I discovered this vintage kimono (a long story in itself) it was worse for wear. It had an angry stain and had a lining that was torn in many places. A great dry cleaner and some tender loving care later and it was a new kimono.

A sane woman would not have bought it but I like a challenge.

As with most vintage purchases I make, I am intrigued by their lives before me. Who their owners were, how they discovered the piece and how they wore them.

If clothes could only talk.

Camera Obscura // A DJ Saved My Life

After 10 industry events or 30… the playlists can start to blur into each other. It is always fun then if the music happens to notably stand out.

Singer Sunday Girl (real name Jade Williams as pictured above with me) has saved my life a few times.

No, not literally but in that way only a DJ can rejuvenate with a great set.

Camera Obscura // Don’t Touch The Turban!

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

At the Company Fashion Awards 2012. Image by camera obscura.

It is clear that my turban once on, does not come off. Not even for the photo booth.

The case of a girl having to stand for something or she falling for anything?

To be honest though, between just the two of us,  after seeing this photo, serious headpiece envy was induced by that lilac rose head wreath (alternately seen on Phill of Taylor-Made and Alexxsia of Company.

Camera Obscura // Like A Moth To A Flame

Photobucket

This is the latest in a mountain of fashion event photo booth images in my possession. I was in the booth at the Rob Pruitt x Jimmy Choo launch way too many times (one such time as documented above with my friend Bert).

If there is a photo booth in the house, I’m bound to find it. The obsession grows.

What happens in the photo booth does not stay in the photo booth…
