“Your wedding is going to be the biggest production of your adult life. Darling if you’re going to do it at all, whatever the theme, make it fabulously stylish!”

That is what I tell the brides to be, that I style. I have styled a lot of brides. From the classic traditional, to relaxed destination brides, to the bohemian bride, to the registry/city hall bride, the vintage loving bride, the contemporary and a vast host more. Whatever their wedding style or size, they all want to look stunning and memorable.

I have also styled their bridal parties, families and the grooms!

Lately I have had more requests for wedding related styling by guests.
Even guests want to look the part at weddings. I love love love the outfits and general mood in the above Vogue ‘The Wedding Party’ editorial. Don’t they look divine? Oh and in case you were wondering if we mere non models can look that good in real weddings, the answer is yes! It is all about great styling.

Even though quite a few brides think styling is essential, majority are getting married without it.

This sometimes can be a big mistake, big mistake.

Let me tell you why, oh and the below account happens a dime a dozen.

The other day I attended a wedding. It was in a stunning country manor, the whole feel of it was very traditional and no cost had been spared. Right from the venue to decor to the wedding planner they hired.

The Bridesmaids wafted down the aisle in gorgeous complimenting Lanvin gowns. Each girl wore a different dress but in a similar palette.

Then as we all turned our head as the bride came down the aisle, there were actually muffled and audible gasps. No these were not gasps because she looked stunning. These were off the bad variety.
She looked an unfortunate mess. Majorly. It hurts my cotton socks to say that (as isn’t every bride supposed to be beautiful?) but it’s the truth.

She was wearing a no name gown (no issue it not with at it being no name!) that had completed swallowed her into its dreaded whole. A tad like a poor insect caught in a Venus fly trap!

It broke my style loving heart. I could literally not bare to look at her, in that traitor of a gown.

She looked really upset and was definitely not the belle of that ball. Her bridesmaids were.

I am all for bridesmaids looking stunning but when they do and the bride looks like an unfortunate mess, radio Houston because we have a problem.

What was even worse was her groom looked impeccable, incredibly turned out. The man other than being there to marry you (as important as that is hehehe), should be your style accessory. She looked so bad that he completely took the style centre stage.
Why did this happen? Like many other style victim brides, she thought that because she loved fashion, she was well equipped to style herself for her biggest day.

Loving fashion does not a professional stylist make you. It might not equip you with technical skills, the experience to spot the hard to see issues your dream gown might present in relation to your poroportions-wedding style-complexion etc.

A week later and I had to assist her find that dream gown (that she should have worn to the wedding in the first place, only if she had hired me earlier!) for a studio photo session. Yes there had been a very expensive photographer at the wedding but because of the unflattering traitor gown, she wanted to redo the photos in a different dress.

Rookie mistake my darlings! We all love baking but don’t usually attempt making our wedding cakes, we might like a spot of wedding planning but we leave that to the experts too when we can, oh and we don’t forget to hire the best in photography to capture our day either.

The point of my long winded example? We shouldn’t be styling ourselves either when we are getting married. Leave it to an expert. That way you get to blame me if you end up looking like an insect in a Venus fly trap! *Smile.*

I was recently honoured with an interview on Examiner.com
