Beauty Trend Spotter // Ponytails Fall Winter 2011 Trend

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Louis Vuitton | Marc Jacobs | Alexander Wang | Dries Van Noten | Prada | Gucci

The fashion powers that be decree fall the season of the ponytail. If you looked closely it was present in every guise. From the bondage inspired right through to the sporty.

It was high and dominatrix at shows with a perverse streak such as Ungaro, Mugler, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton.

Over at Dries Van Noten and Alexander Wang it was low, mussed and left looking undone.

Whilst at the likes of Gucci and Prada the ponytail it was sedate and held at the nape of the neck.

Will you be wearing the ‘tail and how high or low do you dare go?

Beauty Trend Spotter // Beehives And Bouffants

Monday, April 11th, 2011

Jean Paul Gaultier fall 2011 | Bottega Veneta fall 2011

It is all about the sixties come fall 2011. Hair goes by way of that decade with teased beehives and bouffants.

The question is how high do you dare to tease it?

Beauty Trend Spotter // Gold Hair

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

One beauty trend that I have spotted at New York Fashion Week has to be gold hair.

At Jason Wu it was gold leaf at the back of heads. It was seen to the side of hair at Betsey Johnson. While at Juan Carlos Obando, it hair was completely dipped in the metallic tone.

Your thoughts on this emerging beauty trend?

Will you be streaking your hair with gold and other metallic’s?

Beauty Trend Spotter // Fruity Lips

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Fruity lips were spotted at spring summer 2011 shows such as Nanette Lepore, Milly by Michelle Smith, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg etc

Think juicy glossy, fruit inspired shades. Watermelon and strawberry pinks, tangy oranges etc

I particularly like the juicy tangerine orange lips as seen at Milly by Michelle Smith (top left of collage).

Will you be wearing a fruity lip shade?

Beauty Trend Spotter // Mexican Beauty

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

I think I see Mexican surrealist painter, Frida Kahlo in the beauty look at Sophie Théallet spring summer 2011. The red rosy lips juxtaposing the enigmatic dark eye.

Maybe the braided chignon has something to do with too?

According to Bella Sugar, the makeup look as created by head NARS makeup artist, Lena Koro was inspired by Mexican folk singer, Chavela Vargas. Koro shares how to get the look on the site here.

Beauty Trend Spotter // Braids trend

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Braids seem to be synonymous with eternal summers. For summer 2010, fashion houses like Alexander Wang, Gaultier, Miu Miu made the the braid the hottest accessory. That gave way to autumn winter’s top knot and bun, in keeping with the season’s ladylike look.

The Intricate basket weaves, loose plaits, braided chignons, fish plaits, cornrows, spiky plaits as seeon on spring summer 2011 catwalks prove that the plait is back.

Could this possibly be summer’s biggest beauty trend?

Beauty Trend Spotter // Loose Bun

Yay to loose buns and messy top knots! Minimal effort that looks good? Yes please! I first spied this at spring summer 2010 shows like Lanvin spring summer 2010 and Bottega Veneta spring summer 2010.

Then fast forward to Dolce & Gabbana autumn winter 2010 -2011 and Prada autumn winter 2010 -2011 and the bun was still stalking the runway. The pulled back hair matched the autumn winter 2010 return to lady look which was categorised by 50′s midi length circle skirts and cinched in waists

I like Lanvin’s interpretation of the look. I like that it looks polished, sophisticated and put together without having each strand anally in place.

In this oh so easy to recreate hairstyle,Mad Men’s siren Joan Harris might just have to move aside!

beauty trend spotter // orange nail varnish 2010

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

I spy with my beauty spotter eye…

Orange nails galore!

I keep spotting the shade on nails. It is literally everywhere I go. It is weird how many orange lacquer shades are available. From neon orange nail varnish, paler versions like the popular Chanel orange fizz nail polish to your average bold bright orange nail polish. As illustrated in above collages, there is a shade for literally every sandal.

Have you worn the orange nail trend yet?

beauty trend spotter // Cleopatra

Channel your inner Egyptian Queen, slash those bangs and rim those eyes with black kohl as the Cleopatra look is due to be huge come fall.

Collections like Erin Wasson and Etro featured hieroglyphic pendants, ankhs, large scarabs, statement bibs and metal neck plates etc.

The Egyptian look did not stop at the accessories. It was evident the ancient beauty also inspired the hair and makeup too. At Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B show it was all siren red lips and smoldering accentuated cat eyes.

Alber Elbaz had the Lanvin models(as seen in the collage above) in Cleopatra hair with pitch black wigs with sharp blunt bangs .

I like to think Cleopatra would have been proud of their alluring kohl rimmed cat eyes.

Copious kohl, sharp bangs and royal bearing like Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra in the 60′s movie are the makings of this look.

Oh, what with the abundance of wigs and all, no harsh coloring hair needed.

Your thoughts on the Cleopatra beauty look?

beauty trend spotter // bleached blonde eyebrows

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Bleached blonde eyebrows have been stalking editorials and the catwalk for a while now. I saw a lot of the peroxide light micro beauty trend on spring summer 2010 runways. At the Bottega Veneta spring summer 2010 show models of varying ethnic backgrounds rcoked the look in conjunction with plum lips and pulled back hair. Everyone from blue eyed Russian Sasha Pivovarova, Austrian brunette Iris Strubegger, stunning Chinese Liu Wen to African American model Chanel Iman had bleached eyebrows.

Off the catwalk, the likes of Australian model Kate Peck have been seen rocking the peroxide eyebrow. She was photographed by street style photographer Hanneli Mustaparta late last year with light bleached eyebrows as seen here.

I think the blonde brow really suits Peck.

Years ago I used to lighten my brows. Not to a light blonde but a honeyed dark brown shade. I found that it looked great with short hair and it opened up my eyes and face a bit more.

Personally I like the micro beauty trend and think that with most things it is all about the how it is done. It is not a case of one shade suits all. If done professionally with a hue that suits the specific complexion in question, it can work.

On the other side of the fence… Get the shade wrong in comparison to your complexion and you could either look a tad extra terrestrial or like you have had an accident with the Barbeque.

Enough of what I think though as it is your thoughts that count! Is the bleached blonde brow in your book a do or a don’t?
