Jenny Holmes and Dimitris Theocharidis, the duo behind this label. They recently won Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden, 2009. For their first stand alone collection, the designers sited that they had been inspired by Silent movies, 3D effects, the French resistance, 1950’s glamour.

For example, sirens like Ginger Rogers and Katherine Hepburn were the influence for their high waist pants. The collection also featured draped silk dresses, garments made from abstract prints (which were the result of a collaboration with the artist O.Two), leather jackets etc.

I made my way to the gorgeous to The Waldolf Hilton Hotel for Maria Grachvogels show.

Soon it started and it was a lesson in effortless sophistication.

The AUtumn/Winter 2010 was seemingly elegant with Halston like maxi gowns, knee length dresses and jumpsuits etc in a gorgeous palette of green, black, red, ochre yellow and gray. Print separates and gowns in deep sea hues. Grachvogel’s pieces also showed impeccably tailored suiting, with razor sharp jackets and pants. Her caped garments and sleeves were super chic.

Charlie Le Mindu creates the surreally wonderful out of hair. His a hair crafting extraordinaire.

Today’s I bunny hopped over for his collection which was no exception to Charlie’s rule.

Black body painted models pouting blue lips took to the catwalk in coats made of hair, humongous wiggys meet hats, hair capes and hair pieces jutting Swarovski crystal crosses etc.

My favourite piece was a Faberge looking open egg head piece(in image one), made of hair with a ballerina inside! Charlie always delights…

Yesterday at 17:00GMT(12:00EST), while lounging on a clients sofa, I watched the live SHOWStudio stream of the Rodarte Autumn(Fall)/Winter 2010-2011 show.

Just before the collection hit the runway, candles were lit and confetti strewn on the catwalk.

Then the collection that felt like a sleepwalkers dream, seemingly floated unto the catwalk to songs such as “Come Softly To Me” by The Fleewoods and “Sleep Walk” from Rock Instrumental Classics (Volume 1 : The Fifties).

The mood was a return from their recent savage and horror inspired collections. This line-up was ethereally soft in feel and its palette, nude.

The Mulleavy sisters did not disappoint; crochet knits, patch-worked shearling garments with protruding tufts of fur, embellished sheer leg-wear, epic Nicholas Kirkwood designed lace front shoes with heels that looked like melting wax, tartan prints, draped and twists features in garments, garments intricately pieced in seeming bandaged effect, dreamy silk chiffons, contrasting prints, macramé, ethnic Mexican embroidery and so much more.

At the end of the show the Kirkwood heels glowed eerily in the candle lit dark.

In a post show interview, the Mulleavy sisters cited their inspiration. It was a mix of exploring their Mexican roots, sleepwalking, desolation etc.

Watch the stunning catwalk video here.

Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2010

Via a live stream, to the sound of “Somewhere over the rainbow”, I watched as Marc showed an all neutral and pastel Autumn(Fall)/ Winter 2010-2011 collection.

This was a line up with a déjà vu inducing nostalgic feel to it. It was almost as if Marc had thrown all his best looks from seasons past into one zipped folder collection.

The runway saw a bit of everything that is essentially Marc(Granny librarian Chic, grunge, japanese influence, bows, high meets low mix, size play etc) with no particular new concept or theme other than the muted palette, easy wearability and texture(think lots of varied fur separates/ fur trimmed pieces layered with velvet, shearling, knit, tweeds and etc designs).

It was a line up of midi length skirts, knits, fur embellished pieces, plastic coats, suiting separates, great coats, culottes, shearling capes, sugary sweet little sheer dresses, a variety of after the knee dresses, velvet separates, razor sharp elbow length gloves, maxi gowns made from grey T-shirt fabric with fur collars.

Buyers will love how wearable everything is. I love the fact that the show read like a ‘Marc Jacobs greatest hits album’ that you cannot stop playing. That being said, don’t be fooled that this was a collection to overlook, anything but. Look closely at the techniques, choice of fabric, the styling etc and you will see the brilliance that is Jacobs.

In short to attempt to recreate this look (you know you want to! I sure do!); throw your favourite vintage piece with a grey t-shirt, varying textures of fur, shimmy into a flat pair of geek chic shoes with ankle socks, a muted sequin piece, a cape, elbow length gloves and your favourite granny inspired bag.

Oh Marc how much do I love you, let me count the ways?! Love much!

I cannot wait to rock the ‘just raided granny’s wardrobe meets my fave magpie pieces meets cool Japanese girl’ look.

Preen Autumn/Winter 2010

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I adored this Autumn (Fall)/Winter collection 2010 by Preen. Design duo Theo Bregazzi and Justin Thornton and got the balance of ‘IT girl cool’ and ‘elegant sophisticate’ perfectly.

The collection featured wonderfully draped floral cocktail dresses paired with whisper thin knitwear. So think intricately cut dresses pieced with sheer sections (bodices, sleeves, back) and topped off with cropped knits.

Some bustier floral dresses with layered underlay sheers or topped off with knits were so intricate it made you wonder how they were executed. Body conscious colour blocked bustier knit dresses featuring a cut out beneath the bust. The segments of each had been ingeniously pieced together. Slightly surreal cleverly pieced together sheer dresses worn with cropped turtle neck sweaters.

Another strong point of the line-up was the tailoring and outwear; it was immaculate with mannish suits, tuxedo dresses and cocoon coats.

This is a collection everyone will be placing on their wish list.

Erin Wasson X RVCA Autumn Winter 2010

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Erin Wasson’s relaxed collection for RVCA was shown against a backdrop of exotic carpets. The line up was in a primary nude palette. Slouchy maxi bed dresses, loose grungy pants in an oatmeal, white leggings and drainpipes, winter white shaggy furs, bohemian floaty sleeveless jumpsuits and turtle neck sweaters.

I could see Erin in every single piece in the collection, particularly the slouchy thermal like dresses, separates and drop crotch all in ones.

Will you be wearing thermals out?

Vena Cava Autumn/Winter 2010

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Images from Style.com

The yummy design duo behind Vena Cava presented an Autumn/Winter 2009 line up that was very Vena Cava. The collection boasted their signature, of a variety of effortless shirt dresses. There was also covetable shorts, maxi length skirts, turtle neck sweaters, peg pants, floaty print grey maxi length dresses worn over sweaters, cape like coats.

The collection of a mostly black palette with touches of mink, cream, molten bronze lame, grey etc had a 70’s feel meets refined city chic air. I liked that balance and I am guessing come fall we will be wearing high waist everything as all the bottoms were high waisted.

I can defo see myself in the maxi length skirts. Dramatic but wearable.
