Object Of My Affection // Alexander McQueen Bosch Silk-Jacquard Dress

Monday, November 8th, 2010

The craftsmanship of this McQueen’s silk-jacquard dress is incredible. According to the Alexander McQueen site, the dress is Inspired by 14th century Hieronymus Bosch paintings and was cut on the stand by McQueen.

The opulence of the Bosch inspired print torso, the embroidered gold sequins and the sumptuous pleated skirt makes for a breathtaking piece.

The autumn winter 2010 dress is part of the last collection designed by McQueen before his death.

It retails at £12,420 at Net-A-Porter.

Object Of My Affection // Alexander McQueen Winter 2010 Footwear

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

In typical McQueen fashion, each autumn winter 2010 footwear design is simultaneously boarding on the macabre yet all the while magnificent and opulent.

While all the accessories shine, it is the footwear which won my affection. This still holds firm, even after seeing all the new spring summer 2010 collections.

The execution of the footwear featuring ethereal feathers, intricate heels with floral carvings, Byzantine art referencing, gold winged angel heel carvings, detail wing uppers, ornate embellishment is unsurpassed.

Gone but forever in our hearts

At London Fashion Week is a board, I stood at that board for what seemed like forever moments. It is the Lee Alexander McQueen tribute board. I have gone to that board thrice; partly to read the moving tributes/messages left by varying folk and partly in hope, that I will find the right words to express my thoughts into a tribute, that makes some sort of sense.

It has been three visits to that board, I still have not been able to put those words together.

He was a true original, still cannot believe he is gone…

The World Lost A Bright Star Today

About ten minutes ago I read online on theDrapers site, that Alexander McQueen, one of my inspirations to study fashion design, had passed away.

For me it had always been fashion, I started styling at 14 but it was an early McQueen collection and interview that made the embers of my fascination with fashion, burn even brighter.

At my interview at Fashion College, I remember being asked to name my top two favourite labels and with no hesitation, I said Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen.

It’s been quite a few years since that interview but his work still leaves me with goose bumps, still leaves me enthralled with the art of fashion design.

Today the world lost an incredible talent; today the world got a little dimmer, as today the world lost a bright star.

My prayers and thoughts go to his loved ones.

R.I.P Alexander.
