Backstage with Gemma Slack

Photo Credit: Gemma Slack via BLOW Presents

This collection sees Slack further explore her dark ethos with a line up of innovative cuts in leather, black sheer separates and dresses, mohair knits with unexpected jutting ‘mind or I will poke your eye out’ spikes and bondage meets armor metal body jewellery.

Slack’s autumn/winter 2010-2011 line up also sees a foray into menswear designs for the first time.

I caught Gemma after the presentation to pick her mind on the new collection.

1. What was your inspiration for your Autumn/Winter 2010 -2011 collection?
The initial concept stemmed from themes within Bram Stoker’s Dracula; ideas of female sexuality and desire, contradiction and confusion. Hard vs. soft. Fragile and delicate minds.

2. What influences your work?
Everything.

3. Who is the Gemma Slack woman?
A confident, individual with good taste and a penchant for leather.

4. How would you like to see these garments worn?
With attitude and a pair of amazing heels.

Thanks to Gemma Slack and Ashley at BLOW for the interview.

short & sweet interview. luv the first black sheer number, reminds of the lounging
outfits women wore in the 40s or 50s. I must try to recreate that look.
