For Valentine’s day this year, why don’t you take outfit inspiration from your favourite iconic style muse? Start by asking yourself, what would they wear for Val’s day? What would your favourite style icon do outfit wise?
It is not about price points/budget. It does not matter whether your wardrobe is primarily made up of designer or high street. It’s about letting their personal style inspire your outfit.
♥ What would Audrey Hepburn do?

Audrey was wonderfully gamine. Her minimalistic, classic but pared down style made her a style icon of the masses. For Valentine’s Day I could see Audrey in this chic Calvin Klein dress. She wore black abso-freaking-lutely ravishingly!
She would pair the dress with her signature ballet flats, like these ones by Tory Burch. The Bottega Veneta clutch and the Armani Beauty Rouge d’Armani Lipstick would be her final touches.
♥ What would Donyale Luna do?

The model who was romantically linked with Rolling Stones Brian Jones was known both her statuesque mysterious beauty and her style. She favoured a rock’n'roll jet set style full of textures, colour and embellishment. I could see her wearing this caped back velvet Issa dress.
She would totally rock it with that Diane Von Furstenberg faux mongolian fur, Jimmy Choo clutch, Falconiere Klimt Peacock necklace and smidgen of Rouge Pure Shine in Candy Plum. The Brian Atwood suede thigh high boots would be a total no brainer.
♥ What would Edie Sedgwick do?

Images of Edie from joseflebovicgallery.com,stylecouch.files.wordpress.com, photobucket.com and 10021nysocialites.blogspot.com. Oufit images from Net-A-Porter.
Edie was a rule breaker, a style setter and muse to Andy Warhol. She had incredible devil may care style.
Long before the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce etc discovered the fashion possibilities of the leotard she had made it iconic. She wore them to high society dos with statement jewellery(she favoured large organic chanderlier earrings) and her trademark peroxide cropped coiff. Super gutsy even for the Sixties!
The original Factory girl and darling of the New York social scene would totally don the fantastic strapless Lounge Love jumpsuit. She then ever so nonchantly throw on these Isharya 18 carat gold plated earrings and Louboutin ankle booties. She would top that off with MAC’s nude lipstick and oodles of personality.
Images of Birkin from smokeye.files.wordpress.com, latimesblogs.latimes.com, i.telegraph.co.uk. Oufit images from Net-A-Porter.
Jane Birkin, my first still living icon is as notable style wise as it gets. How many people have a Hermes bag named them? Birkin was inimitable in her effortless style. Long before the likes of Erin Wasson and Kate Moss made cut off denim infamous, Birkin was rocking them all about town. She made jeans and a white T-shirt iconic. She favoured short hem lengths worn in her ‘I just rolled out of bed’ manner.
For Valentine’s day she would wear Alexander Wang’s gun metail long sleeved dress. She would keep signature Birkin with long gold pendant necklaces by Giles & Brother(anchor pendant) and Paul & Joe(Cat pendant). She would then do a signature Birkin by accessorising with a basket(she always had one!) inspired bag and flat shoes.
♥ What would Talitha Getty do?

Images of Getty from blog.bohoglamour.com. Outfit images from Net-A-Porter.com.
She was master at throwing varying global influences together. From embellished kaftans to an amazing mix of ethnic jewellery. She was the Queen of decadent bohemian luxe. Getty put textures together like no other.
If she was here today she would throw on Roberto Cavalli’s bright and unapologetic kaftan. Then she would shimmy her feet into these amazing blue fringed heels. Isharya’s 18-karat gold-plated metal tiered Bedouin necklace would be perfect with her look. She would then bedeck her fingers with multiple rings; Yves Saint Laurent’s Arty aventurine ring, Roberto Cavalli’s large orange stone ring and Monica Vinader’s triple stone stacked ring. A woman truly after my heart!
♥ What would Charlotte Rampling do?

Images of Rampling from Style.com, frockology.blogspot.com and iamthechildofthemoon.blogspot.com. Outfit images all from Net-A-Porter.com.
Stunner Charlotte Rampling is a model turned actress. She is known for her sex appeal and notable film roles. Style wise Rampling is simultaneously elegant and smouldering. My second still living style icon would shimmy into this Stella McCartney dress. Stella’s pieces are always demure meets sophisticated sexy, a mix that is completely Rampling. She would throw on the sleek Louboutins, Anita Ko diamond earring studs and Lanvin clutch. She would finish off with a pout stained with Armani Beauty Rouge d’Armani Lipstick.
All garment and accessories used in collages are available at Net-A-Porter.
Which icon will be inspiring your Valentine’s outfit?

Great post…Love audrey
Hey Marian!
I have emailed you back.
Anyway, these are awesome ideas! For some strange reason, I can’t see the collage for Audrey…
great post dear!love all of these
a most awesomely excellent post marain, great thought and research. i’m always attracted to minimal – however -
i’ll take donyale’s look in a heartbeat – that luxe dress and those thigh-hi gray suede boots are calling my name…
and edie’s look — too hot – the catsuit, and booties and earrings, oh my.
This is no doubt one of the best posts you’ve ever done! I love the 60′s and 70′s icons. Edie Sedgwick was one of my favorites because I loved her “Twiggy” look. Of course Madame Hepburn takes the cake every time. There’s no way one can go wrong with any of her fashion sense.
Have a wonderful day my dear. I have all day Church today and I’m going to do La Hepburn with a twist. A little black dress, black stiletto platforms, a black leather jacket, with one of my mom’s vintage bags.
Love you much!
Adore the Getty look!!
