Currently Crushing On // Balenciaga, Maria Grachvogel & Topshop Shearling Jacket

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

I am bewitched by Maria Grachvogel’s autumn winter 2010 Cumulus Dress in Quartz Print Satin. Her print technique makes for designs that would look both worn or framed up as art. The cut of this dress would work across a good range of figures.

This Kara Ross pyramid cuff is wonderful. The asymmetric design paired with metal facets keeps it interesting.

Balenciaga goes sixties meets future perfect with this silk and linen skirt.

I am crushing on the cobalt blue suede Yves Saint Laurent ‘Palais’ Platform Pumps. Such a great pair of curved heels.

If you buy one bag this season, make it a satchel. Mango get it right with this design.

Topshop’s shearling jacket is one of the best on the high street.

With a shade name like that, who can resist Guerlain’s Lipstick in KissKiss Baby?

I am enamoured with the print on Henry Vibskov’s Eloise Beeley Bird silk scarf.

Object Of My Affection // Miu Miu Lilac Applique Lace Dress

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Meet my current Object Of My Affection…

The lilac Miu Miu appliqué Lace dress embodies all that that is great about Miuccia Prada.

She has the innate ability to fuse humour and over looked, every day elements into the makings of highly desirable designs. This dress is a good case in point.

Appliqué usually conjures up images of somewhat bulky, Grandma, quilt like worked pieces. Then along came the Miu Miu girl down Miuccia’s autumn winter 2010 catwalk. She sure was in appliqué but it was anything but boring. It was 60’s coquettish romance meets child like pop art.

The scalloped flap pockets, rosettes, cinched in waist, lace flowers and chic black bow all come together in making a dress that is simultaneously sophisticated and youthful.

The Miu Miu appliqué lace dress is £3210.

Trend Spotter // Sweater Dressing | Sweater Trend 2010

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Tis the season to pick the lint and moth balls off your knits. Sweater dressing is about seeing your knitwear in a whole new light. No longer reserved for the mundane functional, it takes centre stage.

1. Make like Proenza Schouler and clash your knit prints for a granny gone chic look.

2. Pair your knits with your evening wear.Think argyle with oversized sequins. Cashmere worn with brocade. The more textures, the better.

3. Take cue from D&G and layer ski with chunky cable knits.

4. Channel your inner 1950’s meets Mad Men girl with a retro style knit. Take inspiration from autumn winter 2010 catwalk shows.

Lanvin For H&M

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

For the past week, the grapevine has been working over time with rumours about a possible collaboration between Lanvin and Swedish high street favourite, H&M.

According to a press release that landed in my inbox first thing this morning, the collaboration is true.

The line has been designed by Lanvin’s artistic director, Alber Elbaz and their head of menswear, Lucas Ossendrijver.

In the video above Alber Elbaz speaks on his thoughts on this collaboration. He is quoted as saying – “H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public. This has been an exceptional exercise, where two companies at opposite poles can work together because we share the same philosophy of bringing joy and beauty to men and women around the world.

Wondering what the collection will look like? On 2nd November, it will make its debut via a special fashion film. This can be watched on the H&M site on said launch date.

Will you be camping out, in a bid to be first in queue, when the collections for both men and women hit stores on 23rd November?

What are your thoughts on the Lanvin for H&M line? Luxury goes high street? Or is it high street goes luxury as stated by Elbaz?

Obsessions : September

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

September has brought a longing for the return of the Pampered Vamp. Think vamp heels by Ruthie Davis, Burberry lace midi pencil skirt, luxuriating in the scent of decadent Apothia Los Angeles candles at the end or perhaps even start of your day.

Prada’s leopard print platforms win me over. They exude feline siren meets fifties housewife.

Red lipstick is the easiest way to glam up. Give a girl a great shade of red lipstick and she can go from wall flower to mega watt.
Diamonds may likely be beyond the strings of your purse, but at £23, consider Chanel’s creamy Rouge Coco in Gabrielle as your new best friend.

Every autumn I stock up on a few new pairs of leather pants. These Helmut Lang leather leggings are the perfect cut.

The first book from Browns, ‘Browns 40 years of Fashion‘ as edited by Isaac Lock would make a good read while you languidly lounge.

Shearling Trend // Shearling Jackets | Shearling Boots

Are you more of an aviator than biker jacket kind of girl? Or perhaps vice versa? There is a plethora of shearling jackets to choose from this season. Feet get to feel the shearling warmth across the high street to designer fashion brands.

The razor sharp sleeves on the Helmut Lang’s shearling jacket are like sleek engineering. I cannot help but stare mouth agape, at the Alexander McQueen shearling boots. There is a pair of shearling boots for every shearling jacket. There is a picture perfect, shearling matrimonial union, just waiting to happen.

Currently Crushing on // Alexander Wang Boots & Bobbi Brown Black Velvet

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

This week I am crushing on Stella McCartney’s refined camel cape. Stella never gets it wrong. This is the cape to end all capes. Luxurious, elegant, it ticks all the right boxes.

Alexander Wang has been crowned white knight of all things cool and these boots prove why. The structure of those heels say ‘don’t mess with me’ and I like!

Bobbi Brown’s Black Velvet makeup collection has had some great reviews, but it is the lipsticks specifically, that have me enchanted. Perfect to experiment with the dark berry stained lip look.

In my book, Dries Van Noten can do no wrong. Till it receives this sequin embellished jacket, my wardrobe will be incomplete.

Mawi’s Rajan Crown ring is on my proverbial wish list. The problem is… one just will not do.

Could the Lanvin Happy Bag have been any more aptly named? The lines of it equal pure joy.

What say thou? // Fur Boots

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

At Chanel, faux fur bedecked everything, including the boots. Other shows like Roberto Cavalli, Thakoon to name a few, featured furry boots.

Your thoughts on them? Would you wear a pair if it was faux fur?

Sergio Rossi Vertigo Pump

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Every woman needs a great pair of pumps and Sergio Rossi do a fantastic one.

They are simultaneously sexy and classic. To me they scream vixen without losing any elegance.

I am quite taken with the above pumps from the Sergio Rossi autumn winter 2010 – 2011 Vertigo Collection.

I think they fall perfectly into line with the autumn winter 2010-2011 ladylike trend but will also stand the test of time. They transcend the changing tide of fickle fashion seasons.

Fashions Night Out

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

It is almost that time of the year again, when all around the world, the spotlight focuses on fashion and shopping.

Vogue’s Fashion Night Out is on the 8th of September. Get your skates on though as this year around, there are even more events planned. There are also more designers and shops involved.

Vogue will be launching a T-shirt as designed by Sanna Annukka. The profits of their sale will go to the charity, Kids Company.

Here are just four of the fabulous events happening on the night.

Vogue editor, Alexandra Shulman will be co-hosting a party with Giorgio Armani. The cocktail party is much anticipated in fashion circles. It is by invite only.

Shoe maestro, Manolo Blahnik will hold an exclusive invite only launch for his pop up shop within London’s Liberty.

Mulberry will be throwing a by invite only party to unveil their shop in shop boutique. I am intrigued as to what it will look like.

Being a nail lacquer addict, I am excited that Chanel will be offering complimentary express manicures.
