What- The BLOCK magazine Issue 20 Launch Party + Presentation of The BLOCK magazine custom rag doll collection by Andrew Yang inspired by spring/summer 2010 Ready to wear.

When - Monday 15th Feb 2010.

Where - Envoy Enterprises Gallery, New York.

The Crowd - Art & Fashion lovers

What happened - Despite the heavy snow, over a 400 strong crowd showed up at the Envoy in New York for The BLOCK’s 20th issue launch and a presentation of their custom rag doll collaboration with Andrew Yang.

Andrew(seen in image two), who designs the incredible Kouklitas range of rag dolls, had been commissioned by The BLOCK magazine, to recreate well known spring/summer ready to wear catwalk looks, on his 27 inch rag dolls. An editorial spread featuring the custom dolls is in the new issue.

For Andrew the launch party day began with an interview with Fashion TV Brazil, then 6 hours spent on installing the wonderfully detailed dolls(which are bedecked in recreated looks by likes of Lanvin,Givenchy,Proenza etc as handmade by Yang) in the Envoy space before the doors opened at 8pm.

‘Pethidine’, a short film from installation artist Ryan Kennedy also aired from a projection screen in the corner of the space. The event which happened over the course of New York Fashion Week was a hit, with many saying it was the best event they and attended that fashion week.

Yang’s handmade dolls are available from his Kouklitas site from $600.

    The dolls are really cool.
I love gallery parties, they’re the best. I usually wind up helping to host them though, but they’re still fun.
We got pounded with snow last night. I was watching the neighbors dogs, and the snow is so deep that they look like they’re floating because you can’t see their legs.
Have a nice day honey. xo d

Really love these dolls (and I’m normally not a doll lover). The Little Fashion Treasury already raved about them and I totally agree with all of you – the are great. Wishing you a good weekend. x

  5. J'aime says:

I find dolls generally creepy, but I sort of like the artistic skill Yang has created. I’m on the fence here.
