WHAT - Launch of Clothing at Tesco’s Florence & Fred Couture and Florence & Fred Trend labels respectively.

WHEN - Tuesday 30th March 2010.

CROWD - Style and fashion bloggers.

NIBBLES - Finger food and a personalised cupcake for each blogger with their name on it.

RUNDOWN - Clothing at Tesco (Tesco is the UK’s largest retailer, it is a grocery and retail chain) unveiled both their Florence & Fred Trend Label and Florence & Fred Couture Label.

The bloggers in attendance were the first to see the Trend label. The summer influenced line-up included cotton tank dresses, animal and tie dye printed seperates and all in ones with a beachy feel, t-shirt dresses and prints. It will be available for purchase online in May.

The Couture label is Tesco’s first premium label priced from £40 to £140. The collection features pieces with simple structured lines. From the ‘Pagoda’ dress(piece seen in second image with structured shoulder) available in both a purple and a grey option, silk harem pants, tailored ruched denim jackets, sage green and purple print chiffon pieces to sequin crop jackets etc.

On the night bloggers were encouraged to play dress up with pieces from both labels. I tried on a cropped black sequin jacket with voluminous sleeves (I am pictured wearing it in image one). I like the structure of it.

On offer were the WAH nail manicures, also a complimentary garment from either of the two collections. I had to rush to see a client and then attend another event so skipped the free manicure. I did however choose the afore mentioned cropped black jacket as my complimentary piece.

I chose the jacket as I although neither collections reflected my personal style, the jacket did. I was drawn to it’s seeming versatility; like most of the garments in my closet it looks like it can be worn in a multitude of ways.

When it arrives I will make sure to put that to the test by pairing it with varying outfits. Promise to keep you posted on it’s wearability via my style diary posts.

I think Florence & Fred Trend might attract the ‘young laid back sunny beach loving’ sort of girl while the Florence & Fred Couture collection may be snapped up by the girl looking for a ‘pared back structured and more formal’ look.

It should be interesting seeing what will happen(how it will be received, if it will be able to shake off it’s supermarket perceptions and how it will develop as a collection) with Tesco’s new couture line over time.

MORE INFO - Both collections will be sold online. For more information on Clothing at Tesco visit their site here. and their blog here.

you need to a post on layering! I am eager to see more of that black seqquined jacket. the pieces look well made but most people dont go to a supermarket to spend too much on clothes.i only get the bargains in my local

The purple dress is gorgeous (I think it retails for £140 – according to Look magazine), and that salmon coloured number looks nice too…I’ve personally never brought anything from F&F but may have to look over these new ranges!

  5. kate says:

the cupcakes look so good, your skin looks radiant(whats the secret?)

I like the george at Asda range, not so much sainsburys. I have never bought anything from F&F but i might just to test the quality.

im impressed that you gave an honest well written review. you could have easily said you liked it all and left it at that with gushing but you gave a good brief on both lines.

  6. Sabine says:

Marian, you are the best example of how great long skirts can look. And all your fingernails… wow! xx

Hello All. thank you for your comments and thoughts.

Nadege – thank you for the lovely comment and yes im a cupcake kind of girl too, although now I can only have the gluten, dairy and egg free variety!

Adelaide – Yes I will indeed make sure to notify all when the gifted jacket arrives and it’s used in outfit posts. I do see your point on a certain price point at supermarkets but perhaps there are those who would not mind spending that bit extra for the quality while on their weekly or monthly grocery shop. Like you I am interested to see how the couture Tesco line goes.

Fashionbytes – Thank you for your comment, do let me know if you do indeed buy anything from the range and how you get on with it.

Kate – Your thoughts and comment are much appreciated. Smile at the skin secret comment, no unfortunately I don’t have specific product secrets but I am trying to eat better. Makeup wise I wear a MAC foundation and a bronzer. Like you I have never shopped the Sainsbury clothing range. One of my favourite cardigans was bought at George at ASDA years ago and amazingly it is still going strong.

Sabine – The skirt is actually a dress from H&M repurposed :) , thank you for the compliment. Those fingernails are those of some of the bloggers in attendance at the launch as shot by the official photographer. All the images are kind courtesy of Clothing at Tesco.

Do keep your thoughts on this post coming. Thank you for taking the time out to interact.

    Kisses,
    Marian.

I am in love with that purple dress! Seriously.
Oh I am considering ordering, my staff discount makes it ever more tempting…the one time being a checkout girl has an advantage ;) x

I am very excited to see what they have online. I would never have thought something like this would come out of Tesco. At this point they will be giving Topshop a run for their money ;-)

  12. budget chic says:

WOW, that looks like so much fun and those cupcakes are calling my name! LOL

  13. Cheryl Lynn says:

The purple dress is very pretty. I particularly like it paired with the belt. You look fabulous as per usual. That jacket looks very nice on you, and I agree, it looks very versatile.

I would love to attend events like these. As a fashion blogger, I feel like I’m missing out on a lot since without transportation, I’m very limited in getting around. Hopefully that will change this summer.

Have a great weekend my dear. And thanks for checking up on me. I am doing better, though my system is still having its bouts with the meds. Yet, I have no choice but to keep going in spite of.

    Love you much, honey bunny.
