Chanel Mesh Lashes

Sunday, February 3rd, 2013

Images via Vogue.co.uk

To bring further drama to Karl Lagerfeld’s vision of a Midsummer Night’s Dream by way of the darkness of goth, models wore 3D fairy like lashes.

Created by Chanel’s creative director for makeup, Peter Philips, the faux eyelashes were made of fishnet like feathered mesh.
These delicate cutouts were paired with an intense graphite pigmented smoky eye.

It really notched up the mystery and magic (if somewhat dark) of Karl’s gothic fairytale.

Jewel Lips

Christian Dior couture spring 2013 | Photos via Vogue UK

Pat McGrath takes her sequin beauty look seen on eyes at the Christian Dior spring 2013 and transfers it to lips. The classic red lip (in some cases it was a charming pink) got the frosting treatment.

This resulted in a bejeweled focal look that is bound to inspire fall winter 2013 catwalks.

The frosting beauty trend is not going anywhere fast.

Once the mainstay of garments, makeup like this is making a strong case for texture within the arena of beauty.

On the beauty counter this week….

Envy, Flirt & Shock nail polish set by Oscar De La Renta
Oscar’s pretty 5th Avenue princess meets punk girl took to his spring 2013 catwalk in provocative latex and demure cutout lace. On her nails were a choice of three hues. ‘Envy’ a sure to induce lust sea foam shade, ‘Shock’ an in your face neon pink and ‘Flirt’, a soft opal white (a good palette cleanser from the color) Before you could bat an eyelash, they were available for purchase on a site near you.
Available here.

Pleats Please Eau de Parfum by Issey Miyake
is a celebration of the famed line by the same name. The bottle design is as memorable as the energetic and elegant fragrance.
Available here.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Color in L’eclatante is part of the Printemps Precieux de Chanel Collection. The non drying matte lip hue is possibly as perfect as coral gets.

Beauty Counter // Chanel Fracas

Sunday, December 16th, 2012

Three new nail shades from Chanel for spring 2013 and the most memorable (there is a nude shade called ‘Emprise’ and a oxblood burgundy hue called ‘Accessoire’) is perhaps ‘Fracas’.

The deep rich pink hue is bound to cause a fracas (could it have been named any better?) with nail lacquer enthusiasts.

Beauty Trend Spotter // Frosting

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

Christian Dior | Miu Miu | Meadham Kirchhoff | Moschino Cheap & Chic | Chanel| Photos via Vogue UK

For the last few seasons, makeup artists have looked beyond the average matte beauty look.

Catwalk beauty takes on new dimension as tactile sequins, beads, jewels, crystals, glitter etc take the place of the conventional powder eye shadow or liquid nail polish.I affectionately like to refer to this beauty trend as frosting.

Interesting, it is not as unwearable as it might appear.
With so much dynamic nail art on the street and beauty brands pushing the envelope, it should not be too hard to spot a frosting look off the runway.

Beauty Counter // Not Just Your Average Red Nail Polish

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

On the beauty counter this week….

Malice (637) nail varnish by Chanel
When the powers at be at Chanel are making us lust after their nail lacquer, they are making us lust after their nail lacquer. Just when I fall irrevocably in love with one shade then along comes another. This time it is Malice. Red glitter meets black shiny sheen for a shade that is part of Chanel’s 2012 holiday nail polish collection.
Available here.

Through the fire nail varnish by Deborah Lippmann
Lippman pairs the richness of a deep merlot red with hints of black and a metallic finish. Add the fact that it is free from harsh ingredients common to lacquer such as formaldehyde, toluene and DBP and this color from her fall 2012 becomes the one that is a must add to your beauty counter.
Available here.

CK One Color Makeover By Hung Vanngo

Monday, October 29th, 2012

After

Before

These images were taken at the CK One Color launch at the Lovebox festival as headlined by Grace Jones. What a makeup range, what an innovative launch. The fact that they chose to set the launch at the music festival is testament to the cool, realness and youthfulness of the CK One brand.

I got to try on the makeup and had none other than Hung Vanngo apply it on

Vanngo who is one of the official CK One Colour makeup artists reinterpreted my usual ‘bold lip – minimal eye’ with CK One Color products.

The lip color is one he said he knew I’d love and he was right! ‘Wanted’ (such a great lip color name!) has since become my go to lip color. To me it is the perfect mix of red and pink. I’ve been left wanting nothing but Wanted on my lips ever since.

Vanngo was right in saying that this is a makeup line that has something for everyone. There is a universal nature to it that really captures what the CK One brand is about; a celebration of individuality while appealing to all.
The best tip I left with? To exfoliate, exfoliate and exfoliate!

So simple but oh so effective. Thank you Hung.

Discover and shop the CK One Color range online at Debenhams.

See Wanted (the number of the color is 410) and the other lip shades in the CK One Color range here.

On the beauty counter this week….

Jonquille de Nuit Tom Ford perfume
The blend of middle note of narcissus with base notes of orris and amber (two of my personal favorites!) and top notes of violet leaf, bitter orange blossom, cyclamen and mimose make for a heady scent. Even better? It is unisex.
Available here.

Smith’s Rosebud Menthol and Eucalyptus balm
When a balm that soothes everything from cracked lips to bites, minor burns and stings and more meets a pretty tin. Say yes to one product does many things.
Available here.

Diptyque Tuberose candle
As the days get colder, every beauty counter needs the rich comfort of a tuberose candle. This one by Diptyque does just nicely.
Available here.

Kevyn Aucoin Beauty

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

MSNBC via YouTube.

There will never be another makeup artist quite like Kevyn Aucoin. So many of the unforgettable beauty looks of the nineties and early noughties that became ingrained in our minds and synonymous with the those eras were created by him.

He saw beauty in a special way. Before his untimely death in May 2002 he had become renowned for his work with the cream of the Hollywood and fashion crop, his books and his makeup line.

It has been ten years since his passing but his work still inspires pros and amateurs alike. Greatness never dies. It lives long after it is gone.

Watch the two part video above for an intimate look at the late Keyvn Aucoin and his work.
