Beauty Counter // 25

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

On the beauty counter this week….

Products that inspire that are both free from parabens and innovative.

Sophyto Super Skin Tocotrienol Concentrate
This product from the Sophyto line as founded by Karen Sinclair Drkae is in keeping with the brand’s anti-aging vision of fusing advanced phytotherapy with the holistic. Free from fillers, parabens, fragrance and colors, this 99% organic ingredient based tocotrienol skin concentrate is a formulation that contains four forms of Vitmain E; alpha, beta, gamma and delta.Currently on my beauty counter, it improves texture, repairs UV damage and nourishes skin. The Sophyto brand is perfect for this gluten intolerant being the first professional company to achieve gluten-free certification.
 Available at Planetorganics.com

Mavala Delicious Collection
Perhaps the most apt name ever give to a nail lacquer collection. The shades in Mavala’s spring summer 2012 ‘Declious’ collection look good enough to eat! Their individual shade names are pretty appetizing too, from a zesty ‘Lemon Cream’, a cool ‘Blue Mint’, the sorbet akin ‘Frozen Berry’ (my personal favorite!), ‘Pistachio’, ‘Fresh Melon’ to the bubblegum ‘Candy Floss’ shade. Mavala’s nail range is popular because they are not only free from parabens, toluene, camphore, heavy metal, animal ingredients and cellophane but also keep their color innovative. I think this ‘Delicious’ collection is the perfect way to wear spring’s massive pastel and soft hued color palette trend.

Blue Mascara

Friday, April 20th, 2012

The kids are alright…

Doesn’t blue mascara take you straight to pubscence of youth or is it just me? It always reminds me of the coolness of two friends; one in high school and the other in college. The latter, Simone, had an individual  way with it.  Wearing it just on the tips of each lash and I barely saw her without blue feathered eyes.

There is a naive youthfulness to blue mascara that is at once sort of high school in an innocent-I’m just beginning to explore-with-makeup meets a rock-n-roll whatever-happens-happens kind of way that i think is pretty awesome.

Eco Fabulous // Super By Dr Perricone

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Crowning the Super by Dr Perricone line with the eco fabulous title. The phytonutrient-based skincare line by Dr Perricone (renowned also for his cosmeceutical range, Perricone MD) boasts a high concentration of phytonutrients (as extracted from superfoods), essential oils and science. What it lacks (actually a bonus!) is the pesky and harmful parabens, propylene glycol, mineral Oil, phthalates, synthetic fragrance and animal by-products.

Techni Color Roots

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

Funny how a little new placement of the old, creates for a lot of ‘new’.

For seasons now the turbulent storm that is the hair color trend has raged on. From cleverly streaks of hue, colored tips with an ombré gradient to full-on all over monochrome color.

The palette has been everything from sugary pastel (baby pink, sky blue, mint green, Easter bunny yellow and so on) to acid bright.

Just when I thought I had seen the gamut and been hair colored out then Jean Paul Gaultier brought something new to the table.

The placement of the color (in this case it was jarring, raw in primary like hue) at the roots of hair was fresh and brought newness to hair color on the catwalk.

Proof if there ever was any, of how much difference a little tweak can make. Method is everything.

What Say Thou? //Mulberry Pout

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Rochas | Gucci | Bottega Veneta | Viktor & Rolf | Images in collage via Style.com

What is fall without a deep rich pout? Spotted at the fall 2012 shows of Gucci, Rochas etc was a brooding Mulberry lip.

It looks like a shade that suits a variety of skin tones. Is it a do or don’t?

Rooney Mara Fringe

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

Versace fall 2012 | Images used in collage via Style.com

Rooney Mara was all over the Versace fall 2012 show. Or at least her fringe made an appearance in the form of the super high bangs models sported.

Razor cut, high above the brow and as blunt as it gets. The bangs could not be more Rooney Mara or rather her The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo character, Lisbeth Salander.
