Shot over twelve years, A Man’s Story by Varon Bonicos documents menswear designer and Savile Row resident (he was the first black and youngest tailor to take residence on Savile Row) Ozwald Boateng’s singular dream of succeeding. The film captures Boateng’s energetic dynamism and raw will.
His client list spans names such as David Bowie, Will Smith, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Richard Branson, Gabriel Byrne and Matt Damon etc.
Boateng grew up in North London to Ghanaian parents, has gone on to become one of the most influential menswear designers.
Bonicos’s starts filming in 1998 when Boateng is struggling with eminent bankruptcy and divorce from his first wife. It culminates in 2010 as Boateng closes London Fashion Week, creating a historic milestone with the biggest menswear show to date.
The film by Bonicos will premiere on 9th March with limited theatrical release and is available on pre-order on Amazon.
