Bora Aksu has longed been inspired by period costume with many collections taking inspiration from Victorians.

In these haunting backstage photos by Dieter Brandenburg, it is evident through the work of hair stylist Chrysostomos Chamalidis for KMS California (pictured in image two) and makeup artist Maria Papadopoulou for Ellis Faas that Aksu’s inspiration for autumn winter 2013 is deeply rooted in the roaring twenties.

Inspired by the the Vaudeville sisters, Jenny and Rosie Dolly, beauty gave a strong nod to an era that saw excess and a shift in how women dressed.

Papadopoulou crafted bee stung lips, eyelash beading and the overdrawn brow which was typical of the 1920′s. Chamalidis created a glossy two bun plaited look.

The finishing crochet crown worn low on the forehead added the illusion of a 1920′s bob as viewed from the front. Chamalidis’s addition of blue Kryolan hair spray to the pigtails and Papadopulou’s beaded lash added unexpected texture which echoed Aksu’s strong focus on texture (crochet, leather, silk and lace etc).
