Ormonde Jayne Perfumes

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

The Ormonde Jayne philosophy of luxury, beauty and elegance is second to none. Each employs rare oils and ingredients, from the world over.

Founded by Linda Pilkington who is quoted as saying,

“In creating Ormonde Jayne, my goal was to combine elements which I consider define true elegance: the quality of English craftmanship, the art of French perfumery and the sensuality and natural harmony of the Orient.”

Their perfumes which are made in a London based laboratory, speak of a glorious bygone age of screen sirens and the golden era of fine perfumes.

The Ormonde Jayne perfumery is a decadent, sumptuous setting for the bathing oils, scented candles, eau de parfums and body lotions etc.

Tom Ford Private Blend Lipstick Collection

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Tom Ford has the Glam touch. He lends pure molten glamour to everything he touches. He is noted for turning around the Gucci business during his tenure with the fashion house.

Not content with just clothing, he has forayed into perfumes (each is divine) and also recently made his directorial movie debut with the impeccable styled movie, ‘Single Man’.

He has now lent that Ford magic to a Lipstick collection consisting of 12 shades. The creamy lipsticks see Tom Ford re-invent lip shades such as nude, deep brown etc.

The lip collection priced at £35($45) are made of an exotic blend of chamomilla flower, soja seed extract and Brazilian murumuru butter is aptly named, ‘Private Blend Lip Colour’.

The lipsticks may be a bit pricier than your average lip colour but with that packaging, I’d rather pull out a tube of Tom’s lipstick out my makeup case.

The Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colour collection is retailed at Selfridges.

the nail polish files // beauty diary

Friday, August 13th, 2010

How fun would it be match your handbag with your nail polish? A different nail shade for each day of the week. Our hands are always against our bags so it would only make sense to actively consider their tones.

I must just be tempted to put the nail beauty and bag diary to test. For the bags, I took inspiration from this post on the autumn winter 2010 -2011 ladylike bag.

All the nail shades are available online at Superdrug.

What is your favourite nail varnish of the moment? What bag are you wearing with it?

currently crushing on // coral lipstick

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

This summer, my lips have been living in coral lipstick. My crush on the lip shade is going from strength to strength. I know it is a tricky colour to carry off but I believe that there is a hue to suit each girl. Some coral lip shades can be a tad more orange, than pink. Others have more pink tones than orange.

I think the key to finding the right shade for your complexion, is trying a range before committing to any. That way, you are sure to find a coral shade that suits your complexion.

The above are just a few of the coral lipsticks out there. I have listed the product details below, just in case any catches you eye.

1. Topshop Lipstick in Desert
2. Revlon Superlustrous Lipstick in Kiss Me Coral
3. Nars Lipstick in Love Devotion
4. YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Extreme Coral
5. Napoleon Perdis Devine Goddess Lipstick in Hara
6. Tom Ford in True Coral

beauty trend spotter // loose bun

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Yay to loose buns and messy top knots! Minimal effort that looks good? Yes please! I first spied this at spring summer 2010 shows like Lanvin spring summer 2010 and Bottega Veneta spring summer 2010.

Then fast forward to Dolce & Gabbana autumn winter 2010 -2011 and Prada autumn winter 2010 -2011 and the bun was still stalking the runway. The pulled back hair matched the autumn winter 2010 return to lady look which was categorised by 50’s midi length circle skirts and cinched in waists

I like Lanvin’s interpretation of the look. I like that it looks polished, sophisticated and put together without having each strand anally in place.

In this oh so easy to recreate hairstyle,Mad Men’s siren Joan Harris might just have to move aside!

sun care // cover up in Soltan Five Star uva suncare lotion and hats

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Summer is at last long here and the Sun has come out from hibernation.

Gone were the days when it was thought that only UVB rays (burning rays of the sun that affect the outer skin layers) were damaging to skin. Now it’s been proven that UVA rays (these are invisible rays which are part of energy from the sun and they penetrate the deeper levels of the skin) are oh so unfriendly to the skin too.

I am working over time to try and block those pesky UVA rays as premature aging, skin cancer (melanoma) and sunburn is so not chic!

Two gorgeous ways to enjoy the sun and stay stylishly chic?

Don’t just use to any old Sun Protection Factor (SPF) sunscreen cream. Rather make sure to slather your gorgeous skin with one with the highest SPF and combined Five star UVA protection, go on, in the words of L’oreal you know your worth it!

I love that UVA 5* protection looks out for your skin in a more comprehensive way. It blocks out the harmful UVB and UVA rays in a way that 1 star to 4 star UVA protection does not.

Five star UVA advanced protection has UVB and UVA filters that will keep your skin glamorously bronzed and free from unsightly burn.

My go to one is Boots Soltan sun care range. If you don’t get all the sun care gibberish lingo. This one is for you. It is one of the most advanced range of sun care product and has a broad-spectrum protection system that will protect all the layers of your skin from all the different harmful rays. Meaning you are protected from all the varying categories of harmful sun rays with it’s high SPF rating, 5 star UVA protection etc.

Don’t you adore a great wide brimmed hat? Style and sun protection? Yes please!

Throw a floppy brimmed hat and a pair of sunglasses and channel your inner old Hollywood starlet.

My current favourite is the ‘Felipe’ hat by All Saints as pictured above. I like the structure of the Monsoon hat, does it remind you of a cloche hat?

Swimwear queen designer, Melissa Odabash knows that a girl needs a wide brimmed hat to keep things stylish pool or beach side. Her sand straw hat does exactly that.

If you are not a straw hat kind of girl, protect yourself from the Sun in a felt hat. Yves Saint Laurent’s floppy black felt hat is a pretty penny at £140 but be rest assured it will become your summer go to hat for years to come.

What are you doing as you enjoy your summer to protect your skin?

What say thou? // Ombre hair

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

The Ombré hair trend trend has been raging like an angry bull. Not too sure what Ombré hair is? Well, imagine a piece of tie dye/dip dye. You know, a fabric or garment that has been hand dyed (or in many cases, just printed to look like it has been hand dyed) to look like the colour fades in hue graduation.

Now, the hair powers that be, have deemed it such that hair can be dyed in the similar manner as it were. To make it look like it is fading in gradually colour, with the lightest area being at the tips and the darkest at the roots.

As the images in the collage above suggest, I like to refer to this hair trend as the the ‘ever so cleverly faded in over due dark roots look’.

I first spotted the trend in 2009 but then it was most grungey chic girls with a laid back downtown style.

This summer, the trend has been adopted everyone and it has a slicker, more glam, fifth avenue princess, polished finish to it. Case in point has to be Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester who has been spotted this summer with polished retro styled Ombré hair.

Everyone from Rihanna, model Lily Aldridge, Lady Gaga rocked it when she died her hair yellow, Carmen to Alexa Chung (who has employed it into her granny chic look and gave her short bob the Ombré fade) has been working the Ombré hair trend.

It has been spotted on many a catwalk in the last few seasons and one such show was the Moschino Cheap and Chic.

Hairstylists say it is the look everyone is asking for this summer. They claim that the pro’s are that it looks like an efforless, less noticeable dye job. They also say it takes years off one’s look with it’s seemingly beachy, sunstreaked effect.
